You can make the WordPress admin area easier to use without installing anything: hide or rearrange Dashboard widgets with Screen Options, then adjust the options available on other admin screens. If you need more control, plugins can help simplify menus, tailor dashboard panels, or apply branding. The options below are practical ideas to evaluate—not a tested or ranked list of 13 plugins.
Start with WordPress’s built-in admin controls
Before adding a plugin, use the controls WordPress already provides. They let each user tailor parts of the admin interface to their own work.

Hide or rearrange Dashboard widgets
Open the Dashboard and select Screen Options. WordPress.org’s Dashboard screen documentation explains: “The Screen Options panel allows you to choose which widgets are displayed or not displayed.” These choices affect the current user’s display, rather than removing widgets for everyone.
The default Dashboard includes At a Glance, Activity, Quick Draft, WordPress Events and News, and Welcome widgets. Clear the checkbox for any panel you do not use. Drag the remaining widgets into a more convenient order, and expand or collapse them as needed.

Use Screen Options on other admin screens
Screen Options is not limited to the Dashboard. Depending on the screen, it may let you show or hide fields, modules, or list-table columns. The available choices vary by screen. When you are unsure what a page does, open its Help tab for contextual guidance. See WordPress.org’s Administration Screens documentation.
Choose a plugin by the admin problem you need to solve
Plugins can change menus, Dashboard panels, or the interface’s branding. Pick the narrowest tool that fits the people using the site: hiding an item that one role never needs can help, but hiding something a user relies on can create confusion or extra support work.
Menu and administration-element cleanup
Adminimize offers controls for administration elements such as menus, submenus, and metaboxes. Its usefulness depends on the site’s roles and responsibilities; avoid hiding items indiscriminately.
Admin Menu Editor is focused on navigation. The directory describes options to reorder, hide, or rename menu items and add menu items. Consider it when the main friction is finding or managing admin navigation.

Dashboard panels and branding
White Label CMS provides dashboard-panel and branding customization, as well as menu hiding. It may suit a client-facing admin area that needs a simpler or branded presentation.
WordPress.org’s admin-dashboard plugin tag and its custom-dashboard plugin tag surface other candidates, including dashboard-widget and branding tools. Treat these as discovery lists, not recommendations: confirm that a candidate still does what you need.

Broader customization toolkits
Adminify is described in the Plugin Directory as a broader admin customization toolkit. Directory metadata and features can change, so review its current listing rather than relying on old compatibility labels, installation counts, or changelog details.

The official directory listings are useful starting points, but they do not provide a consistent side-by-side comparison of quality or features. Review each current listing and, where relevant, the developer’s own details before installing.

- Check feature availability: Find out whether the control you need is included in the free version or requires an upgrade.
- Review compatibility and maintenance: Look at the current WordPress compatibility information, update history, and support status shown in the live listing.
- Test role-specific controls: Make sure the settings work for the intended users and do not remove access they need to do their jobs.
Plugin features, directory counts, compatibility labels, and support information can change. Verify the live listing before installation; a directory description is not an independent quality test.
When a custom Dashboard widget makes sense
If you need a purpose-built widget—for example, one that presents site-specific information—WordPress developers can use the Dashboard Widgets API. The official developer handbook says this approach requires working knowledge of PHP and the Plugin API, so it is best suited to a developer or a site team comfortable maintaining WordPress code. For ordinary widget visibility and ordering, the built-in Dashboard controls are the simpler option.
