Choose by fit and function, not by the gaming label. IKEA’s U.S. UTESPELARE/MATCHSPEL set is one concrete option, with a 63-by-31.5-inch desk and a chair with adjustable seat height and armrests. But a gaming-branded setup is not automatically more comfortable or suitable than a standard desk and chair. Compare the whole workstation: your work surface, chair adjustments, legroom, and the position of your keyboard and monitor.
What matters more than the gaming label
A gaming desk and chair may appeal if you want a coordinated look or a particular layout. A standard desk and chair may suit you better if their dimensions, adjustment options, or configuration fit your room and body more closely. Neither category is a universal winner.
Assess the desk and chair together. A chair that fits but leaves your feet unsupported, or a large desk that forces you to reach for the mouse, can make the overall setup a poor match. OSHA’s workstation guidance evaluates the chair alongside the desk, monitor, keyboard, arms, legs, and feet—not as an isolated purchase.

What IKEA’s U.S. set includes
IKEA’s U.S. listing for the UTESPELARE/MATCHSPEL desk-and-chair set gives product-specific dimensions and features: the desk measures 63 by 31.5 inches; the chair has a 21.25-inch seat width and a seat-height range of 18.5 to 23.25 inches. IKEA lists a tested load of 243 pounds for the chair. The listing describes a mesh back, adjustable armrests, and tilt-related features.

IKEA says the desk was tested for office use against EN 527-2 and ANSI/BIFMA X5.5, and the chair against EN 1335 and ANSI/BIFMA X5.1. Those are statements about this product on the U.S. listing; they do not establish that the set is ergonomically superior to standard furniture or suitable for every user. Confirm current specifications on the listing for your country before buying.
IKEA also lists a U.S. UTESPELARE/STYRSPEL desk-and-chair combination. Its existence is another example of a gaming-oriented set, not comparative evidence that a gaming setup is better than a standard one. IKEA Sweden’s gaming furniture category shows a regional selection including desks, chairs, accessories, and sets; the range and displayed prices are local and may change.

Set up the workstation to fit you
OSHA states: “A chair that is well-designed and appropriately adjusted is an essential element of a safe and productive computer workstation.” Use its points as practical fit checks, not as a diagnosis or a guarantee of health outcomes.

- Keep your elbows close to your body and your wrists straight while using the keyboard.
- Make sure your feet rest flat on the floor or have stable support, and that there is room under the desk for your legs.
- Place the monitor directly in front of you. OSHA gives at least 20 inches as general monitor-distance guidance; that recommendation does not mean one desk size suits every person or setup.
- Arrange the desk, chair, monitor, and keyboard as a system, then reassess your position.
A footrest is conditional, not a standard add-on. OSHA recommends considering one when chair and workstation adjustments cannot provide stable foot support—for example, if lowering the chair enough to support your feet would make the keyboard or monitor too high. OSHA’s chair guidance and evaluation checklist describe these checks.

Make the choice
- Consider an IKEA gaming set if its current local dimensions and chair adjustments suit you, you want its design or features, and the complete setup fits your room and tasks.
- Choose a standard desk and chair if they offer a better-fitting size, configuration, adjustment range, or combination for your needs.
- Recheck the local listing before purchase. Product details, assortment, bundle contents, and availability may differ by country and change over time.
