IBM’s documented encoder workflow brings a feed into an IBM channel. That is different from forwarding a feed to YouTube, so an IBM subscription alone should not be treated as a verified way to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock.
Can IBM Video Streaming stream to YouTube 24/7?
Not on the evidence documented here. IBM describes a platform for live and on-demand viewing, and says it supports simultaneous streams to multiple IBM channels for 24 hours a day or longer. Its encoder guide describes sending a feed into an IBM channel using that channel’s ingest point and key. The materials reviewed do not confirm native IBM-to-YouTube forwarding or simulcast.
In other words, IBM-hosted continuous viewing and a continuous YouTube broadcast are different workflows. If you need both destinations, verify how your production or encoder setup routes output to each destination, including current support for simultaneous outputs, ingest requirements, and stream keys. Do not assume IBM provides that routing simply because it accepts an encoder feed.
IBM describes Video Streaming as a SaaS service for live broadcasts and video on demand (VOD). Its listed capabilities include simulated live, auto-archive, embedded players, branded channel pages, APIs, automated captions, search, analytics, chat, and Q&A. Public and password-protected channels, custom viewer authentication, and limits on which sites can embed a channel are also described; availability can vary by plan. Is IBM Video Streaming good for continuous streaming?
It may suit organizations that want IBM-hosted live viewing, multiple channels, VOD, access controls, or APIs—and whose expected audience fits the plan’s viewer-hour allowance. IBM’s statement that streams can run 24 hours a day or longer indicates continuous operation is a supported use case. It does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast, establish that a particular source can loop indefinitely, or describe outage handling for every configuration.
Before choosing it for a continuous operation, assess the destination and the supporting workflow, rather than treating “24/7” as a single feature:

- Destination: Is the audience watching an IBM channel, YouTube, or both? The documented IBM ingest path ends at an IBM channel; YouTube delivery needs separate verification.
- Usage: Estimate viewer hours, channel count, and storage against the plan allowances. Continuous broadcasting does not mean unlimited audience viewing.
- Controls and workflow: Check whether the plan includes the security, tracking, captions, archive/VOD, and API functions you actually need.
- Operations: Identify what source and encoder or production service will run, how it reaches each destination, and how you will respond to an interruption. No independent uptime statistic for this particular continuous YouTube workflow is established by the cited IBM materials.
How IBM’s documented encoder workflow works
IBM’s developer documentation explains the inbound leg: an external, non-IBM encoder sends a feed into an IBM channel. It does not establish a YouTube output workflow. The exact channel configuration and endpoint details should be taken from your current IBM account and documentation.
- Set up the IBM channel. Create or select the channel that will receive the broadcast in IBM Video Streaming.
- Get the channel ingest details. IBM’s documentation describes using the channel’s ingest point and either its channel key or a temporary streaming key. An API response may provide RTMP and RTMPS endpoints.
- Configure your non-IBM encoder. Enter the IBM ingest endpoint and the corresponding key in the encoder’s destination settings. Use the endpoint and protocol IBM provides for that channel.
- Start the feed and check IBM playback. Confirm the encoder is sending to the IBM channel and that the channel receives the expected video and audio.
- Keep credentials private. Do not display a real stream key in screenshots, share it publicly, or include it in published instructions. If exposed, replace or revoke it using the controls available for the channel.
This procedure explains how a feed reaches IBM, not how it reaches YouTube. Hardware encoders are one possible category of external encoder, but compatibility of any particular model has not been verified; check that model’s current output options against IBM’s requirements.

What YouTube requires for a live stream
YouTube’s own eligibility and policy requirements still apply independently of IBM. Its help page says a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key, with both limits applying. Streamers must be at least 16, and content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check the current YouTube live-streaming requirements before configuring a broadcast, because platform rules can change.
How much does IBM Video Streaming cost?
IBM’s US pricing page lists a 30-day trial and the following starting monthly prices and standard allowances. These are vendor-listed amounts, not a tailored quote or a guarantee that an audience’s usage will fit the included viewer hours. Recheck IBM’s current terms, taxes, and any overages before purchasing.

IBM also lists a separate Enterprise Video Streaming family. Its starting tiers are Enterprise Silver at $898/month, Enterprise Gold at $2,250/month, and Enterprise Platinum at $5,620/month. IBM describes additional security, viewer tracking, and auto-archive/VOD features in this family; custom plans can include enterprise content delivery network (ECDN) functionality. Viewer hours matter especially for a continuous stream: the plan allowance is not a count of broadcast hours. Estimate audience viewing over the billing period and check how IBM counts usage, together with storage and channel needs, before deciding whether a listed tier fits.
