InvoiceLark is a browser-based invoice generator that its maker, cde-yang, says is free to use without signing up. The project began after the solo indie maker ran into watermarks, invoice limits, download gates and templates that did not match their screenshots in other tools they tried. That is one maker’s account, not a finding about every invoice generator.
Why cde-yang built InvoiceLark
In a DEV article, cde-yang describes trying free invoice generators and encountering several kinds of friction: a watermark on the PDF unless they paid, a small invoice allowance followed by a paywall, or a signup requirement just to download an invoice. They also say some templates did not match the screenshots used to present them. These are the author’s reported experiences; the article does not establish how common those issues are across the market.
The maker’s response was to build a tool around a simple premise: “It’s a form + a PDF generator — it shouldn’t need a backend or a login.” InvoiceLark is presented as that form and PDF generator, aimed at people who need to prepare an invoice without creating an account.

The maker’s article lists six templates—Modern, Classic, Minimal, Compact, Bold and Clean—and support for six currencies. It also describes an automatically generated letter-badge logo, an hourly-rate calculator, payment QR codes generated from a PayPal link, and the ability to save clients and items in local storage and export data as JSON or CSV.

The current product page describes fields for business and client details, invoice dates, line items, notes and payment terms. It says subtotal, tax, discount and total update as details are entered, and that users can choose a template and download a watermark-free PDF. These are descriptions from the maker and product page, not the results of independent feature testing.
How the browser-based workflow is meant to work
InvoiceLark is described as a browser app: enter invoice information, choose a template, and download the resulting PDF. The product page says the calculations update as the user types and that users can add tax and discounts. That offers a direct route from an online form to a file, without the signup step the maker says they wanted to avoid.

cde-yang also says, “Everything runs in the browser. No server, no database, your invoice data stays on your device.” The product page makes a similar data-handling claim. Neither source provides an independent technical or privacy audit, so treat this as the maker’s description rather than verified security assurance. The available information also does not establish how browser storage behaves across devices, profiles or browser-data clearing.

What to check before relying on any invoice generator
The maker’s story highlights useful questions to ask when choosing a tool, without establishing that InvoiceLark—or any other option—has been independently tested against them:

- Data handling: Does the service describe whether information stays in the browser or is uploaded?
- Export and payment flow: Can you export saved information, and does the payment method fit how you bill clients?
For InvoiceLark specifically, the maker reports no signup, watermark-free PDF downloads, six templates, six currencies, browser-local storage, JSON/CSV exports and PayPal-link QR codes. Those capabilities should be understood as product-owner claims, not a third-party comparison or audit.

Freelancers and solo operators who want a simple way to produce an invoice may find the project’s motivation familiar: a tool advertised as free can still impose a limit, add a watermark or require an account before download. The article is most useful as a look at how one indie maker responded to those frustrations. It does not supply a tested comparison, performance findings or evidence that the reported problems characterize the wider invoice-software market.
