A Hyperledger Fabric “create channel” failure can mean several different things: the wrong channel-creation workflow for your Fabric version, a bad configuration path or channel ID, or a peer/orderer connectivity problem. In the current channel-participation workflow, generate a channel genesis block with configtxgen, submit it to an orderer through the osnadmin API, and then join peers separately. The exact fix depends on your Fabric version, command, and error message.
How channel creation works in Fabric 3.x
Fabric 3.x uses the channel participation API rather than the legacy system-channel process. An administrator defines the channel in a configtx.yaml profile, generates its genesis block with configtxgen, and submits that block to an orderer using osnadmin. The channel configuration must include the participating peer organizations’ MSP definitions. The block can also include deployed peer addresses in its anchor-peer section.
Orderer participation and peer membership are separate operations. The orderer joins the channel on the ordering-service side; each peer that needs to store or use the channel ledger must join as a peer. Fabric describes channels as private communication layers for their member organizations; each channel has its own ledger. See the channel-participation tutorial and the channel overview.
Check the orderer after submission
After submitting the genesis block, check the orderer’s channel-participation status. If the orderer joined using a later configuration block, it may initially be onboarding while its channel ledger catches up. Check its status and ledger height before deciding that channel creation failed.

Join peers and configure anchor peers
Once the channel exists, join the required peer nodes. If service discovery or private-data operation is not working, check that the relevant anchor peers are configured in the channel configuration. An orderer successfully joining does not mean that peers have joined or that anchor-peer configuration is complete; see the test-network manual for its version-scoped guidance.

The test-network script supplies sample nodes and configuration, so its command is not interchangeable with a runbook for an independently deployed network. For a custom network, use the actual organization MSPs, orderer endpoints, TLS settings, policies, and configuration profile. Fabric’s current channel-creation documentation explains the participation workflow and migration context.

Check common create-channel errors
Unsupported Config Type from configtxgen
This error can occur when configtxgen cannot find or load the intended configtx.yaml. Check that FABRIC_CFG_PATH points to the directory containing that file, and confirm that the selected profile exists in it. Correct the path or profile before regenerating channel artifacts. The release-2.5 test-network guide associates an unset or incorrect configuration path with this error.
Invalid channel ID
Validate the channel name before generating artifacts. The documented rules are: it must start with a lowercase ASCII letter, be shorter than 250 characters, and contain only lowercase letters, digits, dots, and dashes. An invalid ID is a distinct issue from a missing configuration file; changing FABRIC_CFG_PATH will not fix an invalid name. See the test-network guide.

Peer cannot join or reports a TLS handshake failure
Confirm that the orderer and peer are running and reachable, and that both sides use compatible TLS settings. Preserve logs from both nodes: they help distinguish network connectivity or TLS problems from errors in the channel configuration. The Docker Desktop/TLS example in the test-network guide is environment-specific; do not apply its remedy automatically to a different deployment.
/bin/bash^M: bad interpreter
This points to Windows-style line endings in a shell script. Convert the script to Unix line endings and check Git’s line-ending settings before running it again. This shell issue is separate from Fabric channel configuration or node connectivity; the example appears in the test-network troubleshooting guide.

The phrase “create channel issue” does not identify a specific failure. To narrow it down, provide the details that show which workflow and failure point are involved:

- The exact command and flags, plus the channel ID and configuration profile name.

- For a channel that appears created but is not usable, the orderer participation status and ledger height, whether the peers joined, and the anchor-peer configuration.
