The Huawei Watch D3 is worth considering if you want blood pressure readings built into a smartwatch: an inflatable airbag in its strap takes cuff-based measurements, rather than estimating blood pressure from pulse patterns. It is not a substitute for a dedicated monitor or clinical advice, however. Choose it only if its wider smartwatch functions justify the extra cost and you are comfortable with Huawei’s limits on how readings should be used.
How the Watch D3 measures blood pressure
A small pump inflates an airbag running around the inside of the strap. As the bag inflates and deflates, a pressure sensor detects pulse changes and calculates systolic and diastolic readings. Huawei describes this as an oscillometric method. That physical cuff is the D3’s defining difference from watches that infer blood-pressure trends from pulse signals.
Expert Reviews says a spot reading takes about 40 seconds. The watch also supports a 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) plan, with scheduled readings, as well as readings before and after exercise. Expert Reviews writer Jonathan Bray wore the watch for about three weeks. For blood pressure, he compared it with an AND UA767S-W digital monitor and reported average differences of 2.8 mmHg systolic and 1.8 mmHg diastolic across six same-day comparisons. The review also reports average GPS-distance differences below 1% across the reviewer’s workouts, compared with a Stryd 3rd generation pod and Coros Apex 2 Pro, and an average heart-rate difference of 1.83% versus a Polar H10 chest strap.

These are useful observations from one reviewer’s testing, not a clinical validation study or a guarantee of accuracy for other people. Blood pressure can change quickly, and readings taken at different times or in different positions may not match. Safety limits matter
Huawei says readings are for reference only and must not be used to diagnose or treat a condition. Its safety information says: “NEVER diagnose, treat yourself, or adjust medications based on the readings. ALWAYS consult your physician and take medicines as prescribed.” Do not change medication based on the watch.

Huawei also says the device has not been validated for pregnant individuals, including people with preeclampsia. If you are pregnant or have a blood-pressure concern, follow a clinician’s advice about monitoring and which device to use; do not rely on the D3 as a validated measurement tool for pregnancy. Watch features, battery and practical drawbacks
The D3 has a 1.92-inch AMOLED display with a 408 × 480 resolution. The watch body weighs 40 g without the strap and is specified for wrists measuring 130–210 mm. Huawei lists compatibility with Android 8.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later.

Huawei rates battery life at up to six days in typical use and up to one day with ABPM enabled. Those are maximum figures under Huawei’s test conditions, which include six blood-pressure and five ECG readings each day; actual battery life depends on use. In Expert Reviews’ testing, the watch lasted around six days during the first two weeks with always-on display enabled, two to four hours of outdoor workouts and several BP readings a day. The reviewer’s drawbacks include no showering or swimming, clunky NFC payments, limited third-party apps, no native turn-by-turn map integration and limited notification replies. Huawei’s UK payment option is regional and can change, so check current availability before buying. Notebookcheck mentions an IP68 rating but also says not to use the watch for swimming or showering; do not infer that it is suitable for water activities from a rating alone. Should you buy it, or choose a blood pressure monitor?
Buy the D3 if
- You want a cuff-based blood pressure function integrated with workout, sleep and other smartwatch tracking.
- You expect to use its scheduled or 24-hour monitoring features, and understand that its readings are for reference rather than diagnosis or treatment.
- You accept the restrictions on water use and the trade-offs in apps, navigation, payments and notifications.
Choose a dedicated monitor if
- Your main need is routine blood-pressure checks and you do not want to pay extra for smartwatch features.
- You prefer a purpose-built upper-arm monitor. Expert Reviews used the AND UA767S-W as its comparison device and describes a dedicated monitor as a lower-cost option, but a current price was not established.
- You need monitoring for a medical decision: ask your clinician which device and measurement routine are appropriate.
Consider another general smartwatch if
Blood pressure is not a priority and you mainly want a broader choice of third-party apps, navigation or notification interactions. The D3’s particular advantage is its inflatable strap cuff; without a need for that feature, its restrictions and price are harder to justify.
