To convert HTML to PDF with HTML/CSS to Image, send a POST request to https://hcti.io/v1/image with a pdf_options object. Set explicit page width and height, margins, and background printing; then choose format: "pdf" or request the returned image URL with a .pdf extension. The service’s Chromium renderer generates the PDF when its PDF URL is requested. See the PDF options documentation.
Set up an HTML-to-PDF request
HTML/CSS to Image accepts HTML and CSS with PDF settings in a POST request to https://hcti.io/v1/image. The developer page describes the request flow and says the response provides a PDF URL. Keep API credentials in server-side code rather than exposing them in browser JavaScript; see the HTML-to-PDF developer page and Using the API documentation.
Use the API’s current authentication and request format from its documentation. The relevant PDF settings go in pdf_options; page dimensions are strings with units, and margins use top, right, bottom, left order.
Choose the PDF page size
Set both page_width and page_height. Use inches or millimeters for print sizing, as recommended in the PDF options documentation.

For landscape, swap the width and height. Choose the recipient’s expected paper standard and the orientation that fits the content. These dimensions and use cases are listed in the official documentation.

For portrait US Letter, use page_width: "8.5in", page_height: "11in", four "0.5in" margins, and print_background: true.

A4 example
For portrait A4, use 210 mm width and 297 mm height. The official example uses margins of 20 mm top and bottom and 15 mm right and left, with backgrounds enabled.
Choose how the response becomes a PDF
- Create the image normally, then append
.pdfto its returned URL. - Alternatively, set
format: "pdf"in the creation request; the returned URL ends in.pdf.
In both flows, the PDF is rendered and saved when the PDF URL is requested, according to the format documentation and PDF options documentation.
Make HTML fit and print cleanly
- Use print styles to remove interface elements that do not belong in the document. The documentation shows an
@media printrule that hides.no-printelements and sets body text to 12 pt. - Enable
print_backgroundif colors, gradients, or CSS backgrounds are essential to the design; backgrounds are excluded by default. - Set margins for the target page and printer. The docs recommend 0.5–1 inch as a typical printable-document range.
- If a wide element does not fit, test a reduced scale; the docs show 0.75 with explicit Letter dimensions. Check the resulting PDF for your content and page size rather than assuming it will fit.
- Test the page size and layout before generating PDFs in bulk.

The page is cropped or content overflows
Check that both page dimensions match the desired paper size and orientation, then review the content’s width, margins, and scale. For a wide element, test a lower scale such as the documented 0.75 example and inspect the output.
The PDF URL does not appear to be rendered yet
The documented flow renders and saves the PDF when its URL is requested. Confirm that the URL uses the PDF form—either the response from format: "pdf" or the image URL with .pdf appended—and request that URL.
Credentials are exposed in front-end code
Move the API request to server-side code and keep credentials out of browser-visible JavaScript, following the service’s API guidance.
