HTML2PDF.app and DocRaptor both turn a URL or supplied HTML into a PDF, but they use different rendering engines and charge in different ways. HTML2PDF.app documents headless Chromium and bases paid usage on PDF size; DocRaptor uses Prince and sells monthly document quotas with plan-specific overage rates. There is no published head-to-head test here that establishes a visual-quality, speed, or reliability winner, so the right choice depends on your pages, workload, integration, and data-handling needs.

Quick comparison

Question HTML2PDF.app DocRaptor
Input and output Authenticated POST; accepts a public URL or raw HTML and returns PDF bytes for synchronous jobs. JSON POST; accepts a URL or raw HTML/XML. Synchronous PDF bytes, async job status ID, or hosted document URL are documented.
Rendering engine Headless Chromium. Prince PDF engine, with selectable pipeline settings. The accessed API reference listed pipeline 10.1 as default, mapping to Prince 15.1 and JavaScript engine 2; verify current settings.
Billing basis Credits track output size: one credit per 5MB chunk. The Free plan also has a 1MB per-file cap. Monthly document quota, with plan-specific per-document overage rates on paid plans.
Async handling Callback URL receives a base64-encoded PDF; failed callback delivery may be retried up to three times. Async creation with status polling or optional callback; documented async jobs can run up to 600 seconds.
Best reason to consider it Evaluate if Chromium rendering and size-based credit usage suit the pages and volume. Evaluate if Prince-based pagination and document quotas suit the workload.

These are vendor-documented features, not results from a comparative test. Rendering stacks can behave differently on the same CSS, fonts, scripts, and remote assets.

How their rendering approaches differ

HTML2PDF.app: headless Chromium

HTML2PDF.app documents headless Chromium for rendering modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Its documentation cautions that CSS media mode, fonts and other resources, and JavaScript load timing can affect the result. Test with pages representative of your production content rather than assuming a browser preview will match the PDF. HTML2PDF.app documentation

DocRaptor: Prince and selectable pipelines

DocRaptor documents the Prince PDF engine and pipeline selection. Its API reference, accessed on October 3, 2026, listed pipeline 10.1 as the default and associated it with Prince 15.1 and JavaScript engine 2. Those details can change, so check the current reference and chosen pipeline when configuring an integration. DocRaptor API reference

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

DocRaptor documents JavaScript as disabled by default in its options, and describes both its JavaScript parser and Prince’s separate JavaScript engine. Do not enable both casually: both may evaluate page scripts. Confirm which engine and script behavior your page requires. This is a configuration distinction to test, not proof that one service is more accurate.

Which one should you choose?

Choose based on the pages you actually generate

  • For pages that rely on browser-oriented CSS or JavaScript, include those exact behaviors in a test set before choosing either service.
  • For print-heavy documents, inspect page breaks, headers, footers, margins, and long-document pagination in both outputs.
  • For content behind authentication or containing user-specific data, confirm that the service can access the input using a safe credential strategy and review its data-handling settings.

Match billing to your workload

HTML2PDF.app’s credit count depends on generated PDF size. Its pricing page says each 5MB chunk costs one credit, and gives a 15MB PDF as three credits. DocRaptor’s published model counts generated documents against a plan quota regardless of size, then applies the applicable paid-plan overage rate. Estimate both monthly document count and typical output sizes; a large PDF can consume multiple HTML2PDF.app credits, while document volume is central to DocRaptor’s quota model.

Plan prices and terms below were listed by the vendors and accessed October 3, 2026; verify the current offer before purchasing.

HTML2PDF.app monthly plans

How to evaluate them fairly

  1. Choose a representative page set. Include a static page, web fonts and remote images, JavaScript-rendered content, a long document with page-break rules, and a page using your site’s print CSS.
  2. Send equivalent inputs. Use the same source content, viewport or page settings where available, media behavior, and resource access. Record configuration and date.
  3. Inspect the same outcomes. Compare visual output, missing resources, pagination, completion time under the same conditions, errors, and resulting PDF file size. Repeat runs if you want to make performance claims.
  4. Exercise delivery and failure paths. Try synchronous output, then async status polling or callbacks if your application needs them. Confirm retries and idempotency for callback processing.
  5. Model actual cost. Use monthly document count and typical output sizes, include size caps and overages, and check whether any hosted-document workflow adds requirements for retention or access controls.

This is an evaluation method, not a report of tests performed. No independent head-to-head benchmark establishes a winner for fidelity, speed, or reliability.

Integration details and runnable examples

HTML2PDF.app: synchronous request with cURL

Send the API key from trusted server-side code, not browser JavaScript or a public repository. The following shows the documented endpoint and a URL input; use the vendor’s documentation for the exact authentication field and any options required by your account.

curl -X POST "https://api.html2pdf.app/v1/generate"
  -H "Content-Type: application/json"
  -d '{"html":"https://example.com"}'
  --output page.pdf

HTML2PDF.app documents an authenticated POST to this endpoint, but the available API documentation cited here does not provide the precise request-body authentication schema. Do not treat this illustrative body as a complete authenticated production request; follow the vendor’s current API documentation for the required credential field and options.

DocRaptor: synchronous request with cURL

DocRaptor documents HTTP Basic Authentication using the API key as the username and a blank password. This example requests a PDF from a URL; keep the key in a server-side environment variable and do not expose it to a browser.

curl -u "$DOCRAPTOR_API_KEY:"
  -H "Content-Type: application/json"
  -X POST "https://api.docraptor.com/docs"
  -d '{"document_type":"pdf","document_content":"https://example.com","name":"page.pdf","test":true}'
  --output page.pdf

Set the document’s test mode according to your account and deployment needs; test PDFs are watermarked. Consult the current API overview for request fields, and the API reference for options and pipeline settings.

Async work and callbacks

HTML2PDF.app accepts a callback URL and posts a base64-encoded PDF in the callback payload. Its documentation says failed delivery may be retried up to three times, so make callback processing idempotent: identify a job, persist completion safely, and avoid creating duplicate downstream work.

DocRaptor supports asynchronous job creation with a status ID and optional callback URL. Its documented synchronous limit is 60 seconds; asynchronous generation can run up to 600 seconds. Use async handling when generation may exceed the synchronous window, and implement status/error handling rather than assuming a callback always arrives. DocRaptor API reference

Security, retention, and delivery

HTML2PDF.app says generated PDFs are temporary and not permanently stored, while noting that selected metadata and a supplied source URL may be retained in logs. DocRaptor can provide hosted documents with public download URLs; the API reference says retention depends on account settings. Before sending sensitive HTML or URLs, review current retention, logging, access controls, and processing terms with each provider. A public link is not the same as a private application response.

For either service, keep credentials out of client-side code and public repositories, restrict who can trigger conversion, and avoid placing secrets in URLs or document content unless the provider’s documented handling is acceptable for your use case.

Common problems and fixes

  • Fonts, images, or CSS are missing: Verify that the conversion service can fetch each resource and that URLs are reachable without a browser-only session. Compare print and screen media behavior and test with the exact resource hosts used in production.
  • Dynamic sections are absent: Check when scripts execute and whether content is loaded asynchronously. For HTML2PDF.app, its docs specifically identify JavaScript timing as a result factor. For DocRaptor, inspect JavaScript settings and avoid enabling both documented execution paths without a reason.
  • Pagination differs from browser preview: Review print styles, page-break rules, margins, headers, and footers. Test a long representative document rather than relying on a single short page.
  • A synchronous request times out: For DocRaptor, the documented synchronous generation limit is 60 seconds; use its async flow for longer jobs, which can run up to 600 seconds. For HTML2PDF.app, use its documented callback workflow if asynchronous delivery fits your integration.
  • Callback work runs twice: HTML2PDF.app may retry failed callback delivery up to three times. Make the callback handler idempotent and acknowledge only after safely recording the result.
  • Free usage fails on a large output: HTML2PDF.app’s Free plan lists a 1MB file-size limit even though credits also depend on output size. Check the file cap separately from remaining credits.
  • Costs are higher than expected: Recalculate HTML2PDF.app credits from generated file sizes and DocRaptor usage from document count plus plan overages. Confirm the current plan and pricing pages before changing production volume.
  • A sensitive document is accessible by link: Check whether you are using DocRaptor hosted documents and review account retention/access settings. Prefer a delivery mode and retention policy appropriate to the content.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for screenshot output

If the required result is a screenshot of a webpage rather than a paginated, print-oriented PDF, consider ScreenshotNeo. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a like-for-like replacement for a PDF document engine. It can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, and offers controls such as full-page capture, CSS-selector element capture, viewport/device settings, PDF page options, custom CSS and JavaScript, waiting conditions, and blocking selected requests or resource types.

Its documented distinction is that it accepts the cookie/consent banner like a visitor and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. It says bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents.
