If Hindi text is missing, appearing as boxes, or rendering with broken matras in an html2pdf.app PDF, explicitly load a font that supports Devanagari, confirm the conversion service can reach its stylesheet and font files, and allow time for fonts to load. Then check whether the page’s screen or print CSS is being used and inspect a fresh PDF. html2pdf.app uses headless Chromium; its documentation notes that fonts, resource access, CSS media mode, and JavaScript timing can affect output.
Fix Hindi text in this order
- Check the source text. Confirm the HTML contains the intended Devanagari characters and is served as UTF-8. This is a basic diagnostic check, not a Hindi-specific guarantee from html2pdf.app.
- Choose a Devanagari-capable font explicitly. Apply it to the Hindi text and the elements containing it. Do not assume a generic fallback font—or a font name listed by the service—will cover the script.
- Make the font available to the converter. Load a web font through a Google Fonts stylesheet or a self-hosted font using
@font-face. The stylesheet and font file need to be publicly reachable by the conversion service without login, session-only cookies, or access restrictions. - Allow asynchronous resources to load. Set
waitForif your page loads fonts or other required content asynchronously. The documented range is 0–10 seconds, with a default of 0; the right delay depends on the page. - Use the CSS media mode that contains your styles. Try
screenandprintif the page has separate stylesheets or rules for printing. - Render again and inspect representative Hindi text. Check conjuncts, matras, punctuation, line breaks, and whether text is selectable and searchable. If the problem remains, reduce the page to a small test case and check font requests and browser errors before changing unrelated PDF settings.
Load a Devanagari-capable web font
Use a font with confirmed Devanagari support, and apply it to the relevant Hindi text. For example, a page can load a font from Google Fonts and define a specific family for the content:

Verify that the stylesheet and font file are accessible to html2pdf.app itself, and confirm the resulting PDF renders your actual text. If you self-host the font, use a publicly reachable URL and an appropriate @font-face declaration, then apply that family to the Hindi content.
Set html2pdf.app loading and media options
html2pdf.app documents waitFor from 0 to 10 seconds (default 0) and media as either screen or print (default screen). Choose a nonzero wait when the page needs time to load fonts or JavaScript-generated content. Compare the two media modes if print CSS changes the font, hides content, or overrides the Hindi styles. The service does not specify a universal wait that works for every page.

Use the option names and request format in the html2pdf.app documentation and its cURL examples. Make sure the conversion request points at the intended page and that the font CSS is present in the mode you select.
Why NotoSans or NotoSerif may not solve it by name alone
The service documentation lists the font family names NotoSans and NotoSerif, but does not specify their installed versions or establish that either includes Devanagari glyphs in the renderer. Their names alone are not proof of Hindi coverage. Explicitly load a font whose Devanagari support is known, then verify the output file. The documentation describes headless Chromium and notes that available fonts and resources, CSS media mode, and JavaScript timing can affect conversion.

If the PDF still fails
Reduce the page to a minimal HTML example containing the Hindi text and font declaration. Check that the conversion service can fetch the page, stylesheet, and font without authentication or restricted network access; confirm the selected media mode retains the font styles; and increase the wait only as needed. Review resource-loading or browser-console errors where available. html2pdf.app’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends confirming that the source URL and required CSS, fonts, and images are reachable when output is blank or missing styles. If the font still does not render, ask the provider which font build is installed in its renderer; the published font list does not settle Devanagari coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Hindi render in my browser but not in the PDF?
The browser may have access to a font or stylesheet that the conversion service cannot fetch, or the conversion may use different print styles or finish before asynchronous resources load.
Does html2pdf.app guarantee Hindi support through its listed Noto fonts?
No Devanagari glyph coverage or Hindi rendering guarantee is specified for the listed NotoSans and NotoSerif names.
