If html.to.design captures a page but it does not appear in Figma, check the handoff first: sign in to Figma while capturing, then open the html.to.design plugin and look in its Extension tab. If direct sending still fails, save the capture as an .h2d file and import it through the plugin’s File tab. For a public page, you can bypass the extension and paste its URL into the plugin’s Web tab.
Find which part of the import is failing
The fix depends on where the process stops. Separate the problem into four stages before changing settings:
- Installation: Chrome will not install or enable the extension.
- Capture: The extension opens, but it does not capture the page.
- Handoff: A capture is made, but it does not reach the Figma plugin.
- File import: The plugin rejects a saved file or imports it without expected page assets.
The documented workflows explain how to capture, hand off, and import supported files, but do not provide a universal error-code diagnosis. Use the branch below that matches what you see rather than assuming one Chrome setting causes every failure.
If the extension will not install
Try Google’s general Chrome Web Store installation checks. These are general checks, not a guaranteed html.to.design-specific fix:

- Use a computer; Chrome extensions cannot be installed through the usual desktop extension flow on a phone or tablet.
- Update Chrome, then try the installation again.
- If you use another Chromium-based browser, update that browser as well and confirm it supports the extension.
- Do not try to install while using Incognito or Guest mode.
- On a work- or school-managed computer, check whether an administrator blocks extension installation. If so, ask the administrator rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
If capture works but the page does not reach Figma
Check the Figma handoff
- Sign in to Figma before capturing. The documented direct-send route requires you to be logged into Figma while capturing.
- Open Figma and the html.to.design plugin.
- Check whether the capture imports automatically or appears in the plugin’s Extension tab, where it can be imported.
Use an .h2d file as the transfer fallback
- In the extension’s capture flow, choose the option to save the capture locally as an
.h2dfile. - In Figma, open the html.to.design plugin and select its File tab.
- Drop the saved file into the import area.
The vendor recommends .h2d because it contains the information needed to recreate the page. This route avoids relying on the direct transfer completing successfully.
Understand the browser-permission disclosure
The Chrome Web Store listing says the extension needs access to Chrome debugging features to map the browser page into Figma. If Chrome presents an access prompt, make sure the extension is enabled and review the requested access. The listing does not give a universal permission-prompt repair sequence, so this disclosure should not be treated as proof that a particular permission caused your failure.

Choose the import route that matches the page

Use the extension when the page depends on a login, a private network, or a specific browser session. A public URL import cannot reproduce a session that is only available in your browser.
If the plugin rejects a file or imports an incomplete page
Check the file type
The plugin’s File tab supports .h2d, .html/.htm, webpage .zip, .eml/.emlx/.msg, and .mhtml/.mht. When you have a choice, use the extension’s .h2d output because the vendor says it contains the information needed to recreate the webpage.

Account for external page assets
An imported HTML file can be missing images, CSS, or JavaScript if its external resources are not publicly reachable. If that happens, try capturing the page with the browser extension instead; the vendor recommends that route for this situation. An HTML file import cannot be assumed to include assets that were never available to it.
Keep Google Stitch ZIPs below the stated limit
Google Stitch ZIP imports should be under 32 MB. If a ZIP is 32 MB or larger, reduce its size and retry.

What the extension does—and what the plugin dependency means
html.to.design is a browser capture tool paired with a Figma plugin. The Chrome Web Store listing says Chrome debugging features are needed to map the browser view into Figma and that the plugin is needed for certain features. It also says clipboard copying can be pasted directly onto a Figma canvas without running the plugin. The exact handoff therefore depends on which route and feature you choose; do not assume the plugin must be open for every option.
The listing’s debugging-access disclosure describes a dependency, not a diagnosis of every capture or import problem. The listing showed version 0.0.206, updated August 31, 2026, when observed October 3, 2026. Its displayed user and rating figures can change and do not establish that the extension will work on a particular device.
