The HP1010 is a Hynetek digital controller for a totem-pole power-factor-correction (PFC) stage—not a complete power supply. Hynetek calls it the world’s first dedicated digital controller for this topology, but the available sources do not independently establish that precedence. Its documented controls and sensing features can support a power-supply design; system efficiency, safety, and compliance depend on the complete implementation.
What does the HP1010 controller do?
In a typical AC-to-DC supply, a rectifier diode bridge converts incoming AC before the PFC stage shapes the input current and raises the DC bus voltage. A totem-pole PFC stage replaces that conventional bridge with two switching legs: a fast leg switches at the PWM frequency, while a second leg changes state in step with the AC line. Removing the bridge is intended to reduce conduction losses and can enable higher efficiency and power density, but the actual results depend on devices, gate drive, control, layout, cooling, and operating conditions.
The HP1010 provides digital control for this stage. The power devices, gate-drive circuitry, inductors, capacitors, sensing, protection design, and the rest of the power supply remain part of the system designer’s work. Hynetek describes use of GaN or SiC MOSFETs in the fast leg; the appropriate devices and drive arrangement must be validated for the particular design.

These are features listed in Hynetek’s HP1010 datasheet. A controller’s protection functions do not, by themselves, establish that a finished supply is safe or remove the need for system-level safeguards.

What efficiency does Hynetek report?
Hynetek reports 99% peak efficiency for its 600 W reference design. In a 2024 manufacturer-authored article, it also describes 98.7% typical efficiency for its 600 W evaluation board, specified for 90–264 VAC input and 400 VDC output. These are vendor-reported results for the cited design, not independent measurements or guarantees for every HP1010-based supply. The cited material does not provide an independent comparative efficiency study of competing controllers or implementations.
Efficiency figures are meaningful only alongside their test conditions, including input voltage, load, temperature, measurement method, and whether auxiliary consumption is included. Do not assume the reference-design figures will carry over to a different power stage or enclosure.

What a complete implementation still requires
The HP1010 is one control component in a high-voltage power-conversion system. A practical design must account for the complete switching stage and its operating environment, rather than treating the controller feature list as a finished design or validation.
- Select and validate power devices and gate drive for the required voltage, current, switching behavior, isolation, and fault conditions. Hynetek’s 2024 article identifies its HP3600 isolated dual-channel gate driver in its solution; that is a related component, not a universal or guaranteed pairing.
- Design the magnetics, DC bus, sensing network, PCB layout, thermal path, and protection coordination for the intended input and output range.
- Measure efficiency, EMI, thermal behavior, and fault response on the actual implementation. A datasheet or vendor reference-design result is not proof that a separate design meets safety or regulatory requirements.
HP1010 versus HP1010A
HP1010A is a related variant with its own datasheet. Do not assume that specifications, configuration details, pin behavior, or other implementation information transfer between HP1010 and HP1010A; check the datasheet revision for the exact part being designed into a product.

What “world’s first” means here
Hynetek’s November 29, 2023 product article and its January 16, 2024 manufacturer-authored EE Times article describe the HP1010 as the first dedicated digital controller for totem-pole PFC. That is the company’s claim. The sources available here do not independently establish global precedence, market adoption, or superiority over other controllers.
For a controller comparison, evaluate operating modes and load range, PWM frequency, measurement and interfaces, protection behavior, power-device and gate-drive requirements, and efficiency measured under comparable conditions. The cited HP1010 material does not provide a side-by-side competitor comparison.
