Choose between specific configurations, not the OmniBook Ultra and OmniBook X names alone. HP uses both names across different screen sizes and processor platforms. Its newest announced pair, as of October 4, 2026, is the RTX Spark-powered 16-inch OmniBook Ultra 16 and 14-inch OmniBook X 14: the Ultra is positioned for more demanding creative and AI work, while the X emphasizes portability. Neither is a universal winner; your best choice depends on the exact model, your workload, and the price and availability in your region.
What the OmniBook Ultra and OmniBook X names mean
These are product families, not fixed specification tiers. HP lists Ultra 14 configurations with Intel processors and, separately, Snapdragon X2 processors. OmniBook X models span multiple sizes and include Intel and Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms. Even HP’s X 16 specifications cover different processor and graphics options.
For example, HP’s OmniBook Ultra 14 Intel specifications and OmniBook Ultra 14 Snapdragon X2 specifications describe distinct families. HP also lists X 16 Intel and Snapdragon families, including a Snapdragon X2 version. HP cautions that components can vary by country and configuration. Check the full model number and local specification page before treating two laptops as comparable.
Specifications identify what a particular configuration offers; they do not establish independent performance. A fair comparison starts with the exact SKUs you can buy, not a general assumption that “Ultra” is always faster or that “X” is always less capable.

The latest announced pair: 16-inch Ultra versus 14-inch X
In its September 4, 2026 announcement, HP introduced the RTX Spark-powered OmniBook Ultra 16 and OmniBook X 14. HP described both as upcoming fall products and said pricing would be announced closer to availability. The announcement is not confirmation that either model is currently in stock: check HP.com, Best Buy, or other local retailers for current listings and prices.
| Announced model | Screen size | HP’s stated positioning | Availability and price at announcement |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP OmniBook Ultra 16, RTX Spark-powered | 16 inches | AI builders, developers, creators, gamers, and entrepreneurs working on complex projects | Expected at HP.com and Best Buy in fall 2026; price to be provided closer to availability |
| HP OmniBook X 14, RTX Spark-powered | 14 inches | Creators, developers, and AI enthusiasts who prioritize working and creating on the move | Expected at HP.com and other retailers in fall 2026; price to be provided closer to availability |
These intended-use descriptions come from HP, not independent testing. The size difference is concrete for this announced pair—more display area on the Ultra and a smaller chassis on the X—but should not be generalized to every OmniBook in either family.

How to decide which one fits your work
Start with screen size and portability
If you want a larger built-in workspace and commonly work at a desk, the announced 16-inch Ultra is the more natural fit. If carrying size matters more, the 14-inch X is the more portable option in this pair. Confirm the dimensions and weight of the specific retail configuration; the family names alone do not establish them.

HP’s listed models use Intel Core Ultra, Qualcomm Snapdragon X-family processors, or—on the newly announced pair—RTX Spark. Check compatibility for the operating system and applications you depend on, especially if your work relies on a particular development tool, peripheral, or specialized program. The cited product pages and announcement do not provide independent comparative benchmarks, so they cannot establish which configuration is faster for your workload.

Check graphics and memory against the applications you use
Graphics vary by model. HP’s X 16 Intel specifications include an optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 in some configurations; its Snapdragon X2 X 16 specification lists Qualcomm Adreno graphics. The 2026 announcement describes the new Ultra 16 and X 14 as RTX Spark-powered. Compare the graphics hardware and memory capacity and type of the exact SKU against your applications’ requirements rather than inferring capability from the family name.
Read the display specification line by line
Display options differ even within the Ultra family. HP’s February 2026 Intel Ultra 14 specifications list a 14-inch 3K OLED touch display with up to 120 Hz; HP’s Snapdragon X2 Ultra 14 page lists 2K OLED options. HP describes OLED displays for the new Ultra 16 and X 14, but buyers should confirm the precise model’s resolution, brightness, touch support, and refresh rate before purchasing.

Compare local price and actual availability
HP’s September announcement did not provide launch prices for the new pair. Pricing and configurations can vary by market, so compare same-market listings for the particular models you are considering. Do not treat an announced product, or a family-level specification page, as proof of current retailer stock or a specific price.
Battery-life and charging claims for the announced models
HP reports up to 17 hours for the RTX Spark OmniBook Ultra 16 and up to 15 hours for the RTX Spark OmniBook X 14. HP says it tested continuous FHD video playback at 200 nits, with wireless on but not connected, and notes actual results vary by configuration and use. These are manufacturer claims under stated playback conditions—not independent head-to-head results or a guarantee of everyday battery life.

HP also says each model can recharge up to 50% in approximately 30 minutes when using the specified HP adapter while the system is shut down. Treat that as a vendor claim with those conditions, not a general charging-time promise for other OmniBook configurations.
So, which should you buy?
- Consider the announced Ultra 16 if you want a 16-inch screen and its eventual configuration, price, and software compatibility suit demanding creative or AI work. That use-case positioning is HP’s, not an independent performance verdict.
- Consider the announced X 14 if you prefer a 14-inch laptop and portability is a priority, provided its eventual specifications, price, and compatibility meet your needs.
- For other or currently listed OmniBooks, compare exact model numbers. Processor platform, graphics, memory, display, storage, wireless options, and local configuration can differ within either family.
HP executive Samuel Chang described the new products as Windows PCs for developers, creators, gamers, and innovators seeking local intelligent assistants and AI applications, including open-source tools. That is HP’s product positioning; the available announcement and specifications do not establish a universal speed, battery, or value winner. Make the decision using a same-market, same-generation comparison of the actual configurations available to you.
