For eligible YouTube Partner Program creators, the published Watch Page advertising share is 55% of net ad revenue from public videos. YouTube’s published terms do not specify a separate rate for a continuous prerecorded livestream, nor do they guarantee that an ad will run or that a particular viewer or stream will earn a set amount. The creator’s applicable agreement and whether ads actually serve determine what is earned.
What the 55% share means
YouTube’s partner earnings overview says creators receive 55% of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos under the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube says this rate also applies when a public video is played in the YouTube Video Player on another website or application.
This is a share of net revenue as defined by the module—not 55% of a stated advertiser price, a fixed amount per view, or a guaranteed RPM. The partner’s specific terms are available in YouTube Studio under Settings → Agreements. YouTube also says its partner agreement does not guarantee how much, or whether, a creator will be paid.

YouTube’s published guidance covers monetization for long-form and live-streaming videos, but it does not set a special percentage or formula for a continuous livestream made from prerecorded material. The published 55% Watch Page rate is the relevant starting point if the channel and content qualify and the creator has accepted the applicable module. Do not assume that calling a prerecorded video “live” changes the revenue share or makes each view monetizable.

Actual revenue depends on ads being served and the terms of the creator’s agreement. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance explicitly says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. A stream’s length or continuous status alone does not establish how many ads will appear or how much it will earn.
Eligibility and content-policy risks
Accept the right monetization module
A creator must qualify for the YouTube Partner Program and accept the Watch Page Monetization Module to earn Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue from eligible long-form or live-streaming videos. Check YouTube Studio’s Earn area for channel status and accepted modules; enabling monetization on an individual stream is not a substitute for those requirements.

Repetitive or reused material can affect channel monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other video. Since July 15, 2025, YouTube has called its former “repetitious content” policy inauthentic content; repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible for monetization. Its separate reused-content policy can also affect channel eligibility when material lacks significant original commentary, substantive changes, or educational or entertainment value. These are channel-level policy considerations, not a blanket ruling that every prerecorded livestream is ineligible. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and consider what distinct original value the channel contributes.

YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights, and address archived content under the applicable agreement. Check rights for every audio and visual element in both the live broadcast and any resulting replay. Monetization eligibility and copyright clearance are separate questions.

Live ads and other YouTube revenue are separate
When monetization is enabled for a live stream, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically on. Mid-roll ads can be automatic or manual, but those controls do not guarantee that an ad will serve in any particular slot. You can review the available controls in Live Control Room and check the resulting live-stream and live-replay revenue breakdown in YouTube Analytics.
Do not confuse Watch Page advertising with fan-funding revenue. Under YouTube’s separate Commerce Product Module, the published creator share is 70% of net revenue from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. That is a different module and revenue type—not the ad share for a livestream.

How to verify your terms and actual results
- Confirm channel status: Open YouTube Studio and check Earn for Partner Program eligibility, policy standing, and accepted modules.
- Read your agreement: In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Agreements and review the terms that apply to your channel.
- Check stream ad controls: In Live Control Room, review monetization and the automatic or manual mid-roll settings available for the stream.
- Inspect reported revenue: In YouTube Analytics, use the Live filter and review the revenue breakdown for live streams and live replays. Reported results reflect ads actually served and revenue attributed under your terms, not a guaranteed return for each view.
- Review the content and rights: Consider whether the channel adds meaningful original value and verify that you have the necessary rights for the broadcast and archive.
