Open the YouTube app from your Vizio TV’s home screen or app row if it is available. To control playback from a phone or tablet, open YouTube on the TV, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network, then tap Cast in the YouTube app and select your TV. App availability varies by Vizio model and platform; if YouTube is missing, check your TV’s model support or use a compatible HDMI streaming player.
Open YouTube on the Vizio TV

Turn on the TV and open its SmartCast or VIZIO OS home screen or app row. The menu name and layout depend on the TV platform.

Select YouTube if it appears. Vizio lists YouTube among the apps available on its current VIZIO OS platform, but that does not guarantee the app is available on every Vizio TV. Check the Vizio platform information and your exact model’s support details.

Choose a video to watch. To use account features such as subscriptions and your Library, follow the app’s sign-in prompts. YouTube documents signing in by scanning a QR code or entering an activation code; see YouTube’s TV sign-in instructions.

Cast YouTube from a phone or tablet
Use the YouTube mobile app for the standard casting flow. YouTube says casting from youtube.com in a mobile browser is not available.

Open the YouTube app on the TV.

Open the YouTube app on your phone or tablet, tap the Cast icon, and choose the Vizio TV from the device list. Select or play a video on the mobile device.

If the TV does not appear, confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and that the TV’s YouTube app is open. If your phone asks to allow local-network discovery, grant that permission. YouTube’s casting instructions and troubleshooting cover the supported connection flows.

Link by TV code when the devices are not on the same Wi-Fi
YouTube also lets you link a phone or tablet to a TV using a code displayed in the TV app. Open YouTube’s settings on the TV and find the TV-code option, then enter that code in the YouTube app on your phone or tablet. YouTube does not offer this TV-code method for computers. If casting with a YouTube Kids profile produces an error, try a different profile.
If YouTube is missing from the app row
Do not assume every Vizio TV has the same apps. Vizio’s current VIZIO OS app information and SmartCast guidance describe YouTube access, but the available apps depend on the TV’s model and platform. Check the model number and its current support information before concluding that the TV is incompatible. The available sources do not establish a reliable model-by-model compatibility list for the regular YouTube app across every older Vizio set.

For legacy VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA) and VIA+ televisions, Vizio’s SmartCast Mobile app listing says the app is incompatible. Do not rely on it as a control method for those sets.
Use an HDMI streaming player as a fallback
If the built-in app is unavailable, an external player can provide another route. YouTube lists Roku as a supported device and explains how to install its app: open the Roku streaming store, search for YouTube, and download it. Before choosing a player, confirm that your Vizio TV has an available HDMI input and check support for the exact player model in YouTube’s supported-device information.

YouTube and YouTube TV are different apps
YouTube is the video app for watching videos and channels. YouTube TV is a separate live-TV subscription service. If you are looking for the latter, YouTube TV Help describes it as preinstalled in the SmartCast app row on the Vizio platform covered by its guide; that does not mean every Vizio TV supports it. Check YouTube TV’s supported-device guidance for the applicable platform information.
