In 2026, you generally cannot stream ITVX or BBC iPlayer while you are in Canada. Both services restrict streaming to the UK. The main exception is offline viewing: some programmes downloaded in the UK before travel may remain available abroad, but each service has its own eligibility and expiry rules.
Can you stream ITVX or BBC iPlayer in Canada?
No. ITV Help states, “Unfortunately you can’t stream live or on demand shows on ITVX when you’re outside of the UK.” The guidance was modified on 15 October 2025. BBC Help says, “iPlayer is only available in the UK, and access is tied to a valid UK TV licence.” These restrictions apply to streaming in Canada, whether you want live television or on-demand programmes. ITV Help: I’m abroad and can’t watch shows; BBC Help: BBC iPlayer and subscription.
A UK TV Licence does not grant overseas streaming rights. TV Licensing says a licence is required to use iPlayer in the UK and that users cannot stream or download programmes while abroad. TV Licensing: BBC iPlayer and the TV Licence.

ITVX Premium downloads
If you have ITVX Premium, you can download eligible shows in the ITVX mobile app on an Android or iOS device while you are still in the UK, then watch them offline abroad. ITV says these downloads are subject to licensing restrictions and may be available for up to seven days. Its download guide says a programme expires seven days after download; once playback starts, you have 48 hours to finish it. Not every programme is downloadable. The guide lists iOS 14 or later and Android 7.0 or later as minimum operating-system requirements, which may change as the app is updated. ITVX Help: How to download shows on ITVX.

BBC iPlayer downloads
TV Licensing says qualifying programmes downloaded from iPlayer before leaving the UK can be watched overseas. They are usually available for 30 days after their live broadcast. This is a rule for eligible prior downloads, not permission to start streaming or download new programmes from Canada. TV Licensing: BBC iPlayer and the TV Licence.

Is BBC.com the same as BBC iPlayer?
No. BBC.com is a separate, commercially funded international service. BBC Help says Canadian subscribers may access articles, videos and podcasts, but iPlayer is not part of the subscription. The BBC News channel livestream is also unavailable in Canada because of existing rights agreements. Will a streaming device or VPN make the services work?
No device changes the services’ territorial restrictions. ITVX supports hardware such as Fire TV, Roku and Apple TV, but its streaming guidance still limits viewing to the UK. ITV also says it does not support VPNs and actively blocks them; VPN use can cause an error. If you are physically in the UK and see an access error, ITV advises turning off a VPN.
