The Season 3 announcement covers a planned premiere in more than 240 countries and territories; it does not establish identical local catalog terms, pricing, or subscription eligibility everywhere.

Subscription prices and plan requirements vary by country and are not specified in the cited announcement. Check the Prime Video storefront for your location for current availability and terms.

How to choose a viewing order

You can watch the series on its own, or place it within the wider Middle-earth screen story. Amazon outlines two reasonable approaches in its viewing-order guide:

  • Release order: Watch the The Lord of the Rings films and then The Hobbit films before starting The Rings of Power. This preserves the films’ original reveal sequence.
  • Chronological order: Begin with The Rings of Power, which is set in the Second Age, then watch The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings films in the later fictional periods.

Neither order is required to understand the series. Amazon describes it as bringing Second Age stories to screen, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

What Season 3 is about

Amazon’s synopsis says several years have passed since the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies are advancing as he works on the One Ring, while the remaining peoples face a struggle to resist him. This continues the show’s Second Age setting rather than depicting the familiar events of the later films.

Watch on a supported device

A new streaming device is not inherently required. Prime Video’s device help page lists supported categories including Amazon devices, Blu-ray players, game consoles, mobile devices, set-top boxes and media players, and smart TVs that have the Prime Video app. Support depends on the specific model, so check the app listing for your device.

Can you download episodes for offline viewing?

Amazon says downloads are available through the Prime Video app on Fire tablets and specified iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows platforms. The help page also describes options to download a season or individual episodes on supported devices. Downloaded playback over Chromecast or AirPlay is not permitted. See Amazon’s download help page for current device and download details.
