As of October 3, 2026, a Battlefield movie is in development, but no release date or confirmed theater, streaming, or rental service has been announced in the reporting reviewed. To play the games, the clearest route is release order: it shows how the series changed over time without implying that every entry belongs to one continuous story.
How to watch the Battlefield movie
There is no confirmed way to watch the Battlefield movie yet: the reviewed reports give no release date, distributor, theatrical schedule, or streaming or rental platform. GamesRadar reports that Christopher McQuarrie is attached to write and direct, and that Michael B. Jordan is producing and may also star. PC Gamer reported in April 2026 that the project was being pitched to studios and streaming platforms. These are reported project details, not an official release announcement. GamesRadar’s report and PC Gamer’s report describe the project’s status; it may change, so check for a new announcement before making plans to watch.
A pitch or bidding process is not the same as a greenlit release calendar. Until a studio, distributor, or platform confirms where and when the film will be available, there is no supported service to recommend.

What order to play the Battlefield games in
For a newcomer interested in the franchise’s evolution, use the principal full releases in release order. The years below are the original release years in the chronology references, not a promise that every title is available on current platforms.
#1 Best Overall
- Battlefield 1942 (2002)
- Battlefield Vietnam (2004)
- Battlefield 2 (2005)
- Battlefield 2142 (2006)
- Battlefield: Bad Company (2008)
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (2010)
- Battlefield 3 (2011)
- Battlefield 4 (2013)
- Battlefield Hardline (2015)
- Battlefield 1 (2016)
- Battlefield V (2018)
- Battlefield 2042 (2021)
- Battlefield 6 (2025)
Release order is a practical sampling path, not an in-universe timeline. The series spans different settings and includes distinct campaigns and multiplayer-focused entries, so playing in this order does not produce one uninterrupted story. EA’s current Battlefield catalog shows the franchise entries it presents now; the historical sequence draws on IGN’s chronology guide and the series history reference.
Side games and add-ons
Do not treat every related release as a required chapter in that list. Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Play4Free, and Bad Company 2: Vietnam are side entries or add-ons. Expansions and mobile or cancelled projects likewise do not belong in the mainline sequence above. The list is intended as a useful path through principal releases, not a complete catalog of every spin-off, expansion, regional release, or delisted game.

Should you play in release order or start with Battlefield 6?
Choose based on whether you want historical breadth or a quick entry point. You do not have to finish older games before trying the latest one.

|---|---|---|
| Selected principal games in release order | Players curious about how the franchise’s settings and releases changed over time | A longer, varied path through the series; older-game availability and platform support differ and are not established here for every title. |
| Start with Battlefield 6 | Players who want a current entry without working through earlier releases | EA announced it for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a single-player campaign and multiplayer.
