Super Bowl LIX was available free on Tubi on February 9, 2025, with live 4K streaming offered on compatible devices. That was an event-specific arrangement, not a standing promise for future Super Bowls. FOX also distributed the game through broadcast and other streaming outlets, so the event showed that streaming could expand access alongside television—not that cable had become irrelevant.
How Super Bowl LIX streaming on Tubi worked
FOX made its Super Bowl LIX telecast available on Tubi at no charge. Tubi’s event guidance said viewers needed a free Tubi account and could watch through the app or website. FOX Sports described the FOX and FOX Deportes broadcasts as available live in 4K on compatible devices through the event takeover. Those statements do not mean that every outlet carrying the game offered 4K.
The event took place on February 9, 2025, so Tubi’s coverage is historical. FOX’s announcement before the game described the free Tubi stream as an option for that event; it does not establish streaming rights for a later Super Bowl. FOX’s January 2025 announcement.
What viewers needed for the 4K stream
Tubi’s event-specific 4K checklist called for the following equipment and connection:

Where else the game was available
FOX Sports listed FOX, FOX Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo, and NFL digital properties as ways to watch Super Bowl LIX, with unauthenticated access across devices. The 4K statement applied to the FOX and FOX Deportes broadcasts on compatible devices; it was not a guarantee that every named platform or outlet carried 4K. FOX Sports’ event announcement.

What the audience numbers measure
Tubi reported several figures for its Super Bowl LIX coverage. They describe different measures of reach and should not be treated as interchangeable:

Separately, the Associated Press reported a 127.7 million U.S. average audience across television and streaming, citing Nielsen. AP noted that the measurement included expanded out-of-home viewing in all states except Hawaii and Alaska. This cross-platform total has a much broader denominator than Tubi’s streaming-specific figures; it cannot show how many people watched on Tubi alone. Tubi’s free simulcast offered another route to the game alongside broadcast outlets and other digital services. That is evidence of expanded streaming access for this event. The available audience figures do not isolate a decline in cable viewing over time, and one Super Bowl’s distribution options cannot establish that cable TV has become irrelevant. A broader claim about cable’s trajectory would require separate longitudinal viewing data.
