If you have a UK Sky subscription, Sky says you cannot stream Sky Go while abroad. Download eligible programmes over Wi-Fi before you leave and watch them offline. Republic of Ireland subscribers have a different rule: Sky says they can stream in many European countries for up to 30 days. That allowance is for Ireland subscriptions, not UK ones.
Can you watch UK Sky Go abroad?
No. Sky states that UK customers are not entitled to stream Sky content outside the UK using Sky apps, and specifically lists Sky Go as unavailable to UK customers travelling in the EU. Sky says EU portability rules do not apply to UK Sky subscribers in the same way since the UK left the EU. See Sky’s travel guidance for its current rules.
In the EU, Sky lists Sky News, Sky Sports Score Centre and Sky Store as usable by UK travellers, while Sky Go, Sky Sports and Sky Box Office are listed as unavailable. Those distinctions do not make Sky Go available to a UK subscriber abroad.

Sky’s Ireland Sky Go product page says customers can stream in many European countries for up to 30 days. This is a stated service limit, not a general EU-wide entitlement, and it does not apply to a UK subscription. Check Sky Ireland’s Sky Go page for the current terms and supported destinations.

How to prepare Sky Go downloads before travelling
Sky says some programmes can be downloaded over Wi-Fi before departure and watched offline abroad. Sky Go Extra describes downloads made over Wi-Fi in the UK or Republic of Ireland for viewing without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Download availability depends on the programme and Sky’s current rules; not every title is necessarily downloadable.
- Check your entitlement and app. Sky Go is included with a Sky TV subscription, while download access is associated with Sky Go Extra and certain packages. Sky says some Multiscreen or Whole Home customers receive Extra, and some Sky+ or Sky Q customers can pay for it. Review Sky’s Sky Go product information and your account before you go.
- Connect to Wi-Fi at home. Use the Sky Go app on a supported device and choose the eligible programme you want to download.
- Wait for the download to finish. Confirm the programme is downloaded in the app before leaving, rather than assuming a queued or interrupted download is ready.
- Check offline playback before departure. Where possible, test the downloaded title while disconnected from Wi-Fi and mobile data. Check that it remains available for offline playback under the app’s current rules.
Sky identifies iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and Mac devices as supported categories, subject to rights and current requirements. Sky Go Extra also describes use on phones, tablets, laptops, Xbox and PlayStation. Check the app store and system requirements for your specific device; a device that supports the app does not change where a UK account is permitted to stream.

Streaming and offline playback are different
| Situation | What Sky says | What it means for a traveller |
|---|---|---|
| UK subscription, streaming abroad | Sky says UK customers are not entitled to stream Sky content outside the UK using Sky apps; Sky Go is listed as unavailable to UK customers travelling in the EU. Sky travel guidance | A compatible device or internet connection does not grant permission to stream. |
| UK subscription, eligible programme downloaded before travel | Sky says some content can be downloaded over Wi-Fi and watched offline abroad; Sky Go Extra describes offline downloads. Sky travel guidance and Sky Go product information | Prepare downloads before leaving, then play them offline where the title remains available. |
| Republic of Ireland subscription, streaming in many European countries | Sky says streaming is available for up to 30 days. Sky Ireland Sky Go page | This stated allowance is for Ireland customers, not a UK account. |
Will a VPN, roaming plan or travel router make UK Sky Go work?
Sky’s published restriction is based on where the service is being used, so a tablet, VPN, router or roaming data plan does not turn a UK subscription into one entitled to stream Sky Go abroad. A travel data plan may help with other lawful online services, but it is not a fix for Sky Go’s location restriction. Offline downloads do not require travel data or Wi-Fi.

Device registration limits to check before a trip
Sky’s device-management guidance says up to six compatible devices may be registered for Sky Go (+/Q), and games consoles can be used on up to two at a time. If the app will not let you prepare a device, check the account’s registered devices and Sky’s device management guidance.
