You can watch ITV live for free through ITVX, but “anywhere” has an important limitation: ITVX officially works only in the UK. A free ITVX account gives you access to live ITV channels with advertising, provided you are in the UK and using a supported device.
Outside the UK, ITV says that both live and on-demand streaming are unavailable because of broadcast and content licences. A VPN or proxy is not an official workaround; ITVX may block playback when it detects one.
What you need to watch ITV live
- A free ITVX account
- A UK internet connection
- A supported browser, phone, tablet, smart TV or streaming device
- The ITVX website or app
ITVX is free with advertising. You do not need ITVX Premium to watch the free live channels, although you must register and sign in.

A free account supports live streams of ITV1, ITV2, ITVBe, ITV3 and ITV4, as well as ITVX’s curated live channels. Availability can vary by programme because ITV may have television rights without online rights.

How to create a free ITVX account
- Open
itv.com/watch/user/signin. - Enter your email address.
- If the email is not already registered, complete the registration form.
- Sign in and return to ITVX.
On an iPhone, iPad or Android device, open the ITVX app and select My ITV → Sign in. Choose the account-creation option if you do not already have an account.
Watch ITV live in a web browser
- Open the ITVX website and sign in.
- Select Live in the navigation bar.
- Choose ITV1, ITV2, ITVBe, ITV3, ITV4 or another available ITVX live channel.
- Select the programme to start playback.
You can also select a channel or live programme directly from the ITVX homepage. If a programme is missing, that does not necessarily mean ITVX is broken. Some broadcasts are not cleared for online streaming.
Watch ITV live on an iPhone, iPad or Android device
- Install and open the ITVX app.
- Sign in to your free ITVX account.
- Open the Live section.
- Swipe through the available channels.
- Tap a channel or programme to begin watching.
The app requires iOS 15 or later on Apple mobile devices and Android 7.0 or later on Android devices.
Watch ITV live on a smart TV or streaming device
ITVX live TV is available on the website, mobile apps and many connected-TV platforms. ITV’s listed platforms include:

Some live events are not available on every device, even when ITVX itself is supported.

Sign in using the TV’s QR code
- Open ITVX on the TV.
- Choose a programme.
- Select the sign-in option.
- Scan the displayed QR code with your phone or tablet’s built-in camera.
- Follow the ITVX sign-in or registration page.
Use the phone’s normal camera app rather than an unfamiliar third-party QR reader. ITV warns that some QR-reader apps redirect users to websites that ask for payment details. If the QR code opens a site that is not an ITV website, close it and use the numeric-code method instead.
Sign in with an ITVX pairing code
- Leave the ITVX login screen visible on the TV.
- On a phone, tablet or computer, open
itv.com/pair. - Sign in or create an ITVX account.
- Enter the 6–10 digit code shown on the TV.
- Select Continue.
The code works only while it is displayed and expires after one hour. To generate another code, leave the TV login screen and return to it.
Sign in with the TV remote
- Choose Sign in with TV remote on the ITVX app.
- Enter your email address.
- Open the ITVX email on another device.
- Select the Sign In button in the email.
The email link is single-use and remains valid for 15 minutes. If it expires, enter your email address again on the TV.
Regional ITV live streams have stricter device limits
The main ITV live channels and regional live content do not have identical device support. ITV currently supports regional news, weather and ITV1 programming on:
- Xbox One/S/X and Xbox Series X/S
- Samsung Smart TVs from 2017 onward
- Amazon Fire TV
- Roku Streaming Players
- Freeview Play
- Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream puck
- Virgin Media
Regional live content is not currently available on browsers, mobile devices, YouView, Freesat, PlayStation 4/5, tvOS, Android TV or LG Smart TVs from 2025 onward. This restriction concerns regional content specifically; it does not mean that all main ITV live streams are unavailable on those platforms.

Can you watch ITVX outside the UK?
Officially, no. ITV states that ITVX and ITVX Premium can only be used in the UK. Outside the UK, ITVX does not permit live or on-demand streaming.

Therefore, claims that a free ITVX account can officially stream ITV live “anywhere in the world” are inaccurate.
The one abroad-watching option ITV documents is different from live streaming: ITVX Premium users can download eligible programmes in the UK using the iOS or Android app, then watch those downloads abroad. Downloads are mobile-only, subject to licensing restrictions and available for up to seven days. This does not provide live ITV access overseas.
Fix ITVX when it thinks you are outside the UK
A UK viewer can still receive an “outside the UK” error. ITV says this can happen when an internet provider’s IP-address records make the connection appear to originate outside the UK.
- Disable any VPN, proxy or similar privacy-routing service.
- Restart the browser, ITVX app or TV.
- Try the ITVX service on another connection, such as mobile data, if practical.
- Check whether the problem affects only one device or the whole home network.
- Contact your ISP if the connection is in the UK but ITVX continues to identify it as overseas.
ITV says ISPs should update their server and IP-location records weekly. Persistent location errors therefore need to be reported to the ISP rather than solved by repeatedly reinstalling ITVX.

Device and account limits
A single ITVX account can stream on up to four separate devices simultaneously. If you see a “too many devices” error, sign out on another device or use a different account.
Roku and NOW users should also check firmware. ITV currently lists version 11.5.0 as the minimum on its compatibility page, but says app updates will require at least firmware 15.1 by October 1. ITV’s page does not specify the year for that deadline, so check the device for an available firmware update.

Is ITVX free to watch live?
Yes. ITVX is free with advertising, but you must register for an account and sign in. The free service includes live ITV1, ITV2, ITVBe, ITV3, ITV4 and selected ITVX live channels.
Can I watch ITV live outside the UK for free?
Not officially. ITV says ITVX live and on-demand streaming is available only in the UK because of broadcast and content licences.
Do I need ITVX Premium for live TV?
No. A free ITVX account supports the listed live channels. Premium mainly adds benefits such as ad-free viewing and eligible offline downloads; it does not provide official live streaming abroad.

Why does ITVX say I am outside the UK when I am in the UK?
ITV says your ISP’s IP-location records may incorrectly identify your connection as overseas. Disable VPNs or proxies first, then contact your ISP if the problem continues.
How many devices can use one ITVX account at once?
Up to four separate devices can stream simultaneously. A fifth concurrent stream can trigger a “too many devices” error.
Can I watch ITV regional news on my phone?
ITV currently says regional live content is not available on mobile devices. Regional live content has a narrower list of supported platforms than the main ITV live channels.

The Bottom Line
For free live ITV in the UK, create an ITVX account, open the Live section and choose a channel. On a TV, sign in with the QR code, pairing code at itv.com/pair or the email link from the remote-login option.
There is no official “watch ITV anywhere in the world” option. ITVX is UK-only, and ITV may block VPNs and proxies. If you are travelling abroad, the documented alternative is limited ITVX Premium offline downloads made in the UK—not live streaming.
