Yes. If you requested a Michigan absentee ballot but have not returned it, you can still vote in person. Either surrender the absentee ballot and complete a new one at your early voting site or assigned Election Day polling place, or bring your completed absentee ballot to a location where it can be tabulated. Detroit polling places cannot tabulate completed absentee ballots on Election Day.
First, check whether you already returned your ballot
The key question is whether the absentee ballot has been submitted—not simply whether you requested or received it. Michigan allows you to vote in person if you have not already returned the absentee ballot. If you have submitted it, you cannot cast another ballot in person; a ballot already inserted into a tabulator cannot be changed. Choose how you want to vote in person

At an early voting site, staff can issue a new ballot after you surrender the absentee ballot. On Election Day, election inspectors at your assigned polling place can accept the surrendered ballot and issue a new one. The Michigan Bureau of Elections’ Election Officials Manual, Chapter 6 describes the surrender process.
Find your location and check the schedule
- Go to Michigan.gov/Vote and use the voter information tools to find your early voting site or assigned polling place.
- Check the dates and hours for the specific election and location. Early voting locations and schedules vary by jurisdiction and election.
- If voting on Election Day, go to your assigned polling place; Michigan polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time. The state’s Election Day guidance explains polling place rules.
Beginning in 2026, communities may provide early voting on the Monday before Election Day. Check Michigan.gov/Vote for the schedule that applies to your election rather than assuming that a particular site or date is available.

Bring photo ID if you have it
Michigan asks voters to present an acceptable photo ID. If you do not have one or forgot it, you may still vote by signing an Affidavit of Voter Not in Possession of Picture Identification, according to the Secretary of State’s early in-person voting FAQ.

If you submit an absentee ballot at an early voting or Election Day location, Michigan.gov/Vote tracking may not show it as received, and you may not get an alert. The state’s absentee voting guidance notes this limitation.
