For a picture of the intended logic, diagram the Workflow Definition separately: execution history is runtime evidence, not a guaranteed workflow graph. UI availability and features depend on your deployment and version.
First decide what you want to visualize
Temporal uses two related terms for different things. A Workflow Definition is the code that defines a workflow; a Workflow Execution is one instance of that code running. The execution’s Event History records its state at each step, so it is the useful source for understanding what happened in a particular run. Temporal’s overview of the platform describes Event History as the record of a Workflow Execution’s state.
| Goal | What to inspect or create | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Understand one run | A Workflow Execution and its Event History in the Temporal Web UI | Runtime information for that execution |
| Explain the code’s intended flow | A diagram of the Workflow Definition | A code-level design view, not the persisted trace of a particular run |
| Investigate delayed task processing | Worker information in the UI | Worker details associated with a Workflow Task Queue |
Do not assume that “visualize” means Temporal will render a node-and-arrow graph: the official documentation cited here establishes execution history and Worker views, not a universal workflow graph renderer.
Inspect a Workflow Execution and its Event History
Open the Temporal Web UI available for your deployment, locate the Workflow Execution you want to examine, and review its status and history information. The exact navigation labels and history layout can vary; the documentation does not establish one universal click path.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm which Temporal Web UI instance you are using and that it is enabled for your deployment. The Web UI environment-variable reference documents configuration options; a deployment can disable the browser UI even while server APIs remain available.
- Find the specific Workflow Execution, rather than relying on the Workflow Definition alone. A definition describes intended logic; the execution is the individual run whose behavior you want to inspect.
- Use the execution’s available status and Event History details to follow runtime activity. Event History is the record of the execution’s state at each step, not a diagram of every possible code path.
- When comparing behavior, make sure you are examining the intended execution. Different executions of the same definition can have different histories.
Use Worker views to investigate delayed processing
If the concern is that tasks are not being processed promptly, inspect Worker information associated with the Workflow Task Queue. Temporal documents a Workers listing and a Workers tab on Workflow details. These views help investigate Worker-side processing; they are not a substitute for the execution’s Event History.
Temporal’s documented Worker visualization requires Temporal Server 1.30 or higher, API version 1.62 or higher, and Worker Heartbeating; Temporal Cloud also offers this visualization. These are feature compatibility requirements, not performance measurements. Check your deployed Server and API versions and whether your SDK configuration supports Worker Heartbeating before relying on the view. See Temporal’s Worker performance documentation for the feature details.

Draw a separate diagram for the Workflow Definition
For architecture reviews, onboarding, or documentation, create a diagram that represents the Workflow Definition’s intended code-level flow. Label it accordingly, and keep it distinct from a particular execution’s Event History. A design diagram can explain branches or planned steps; the history shows the recorded behavior of one run. Temporal’s documentation distinguishes the code definition from an execution, but the sources here do not establish a built-in graph view for every UI edition or version.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Read failures in the right context
A failed task and a failed execution are not the same event. Temporal’s Workflow Task and Workflow Execution failure documentation explains that Workflow Task failures are automatically retried while the execution remains open. A Workflow Execution failure closes that run; another run is created automatically only when a Workflow Retry Policy is configured.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
When reviewing a history, use this distinction to avoid treating a retried task failure as proof that the whole execution has ended. Conversely, if the execution itself has failed, check whether a retry policy applies before expecting a subsequent run.

Check deployment and version before troubleshooting the view
- If you cannot access the browser UI, verify that it is enabled and configured for your deployment; availability is not guaranteed by the presence of Temporal Server APIs.
- If you are looking for a workflow graph, do not assume one is present. Use Event History for runtime evidence and create a separate design diagram when you need an overview.
- If Worker information is missing, verify the documented Server and API thresholds and Worker Heartbeating support for your setup.
- If the UI’s navigation or layout differs from instructions found elsewhere, rely on the deployed UI and version-specific documentation rather than assuming labels are universal.
