Start by searching the claim in the Electoral Justice’s Fato ou Boato archive. Then open the original source, check its author, publication date and web address, read beyond the headline, and compare the claim with reliable reporting and relevant official TSE information. For voter services or election complaints, use the specific official tool for that task; those tools do not all verify claims.
How to check a political claim
- Search Fato ou Boato. Look up distinctive wording or the subject of the claim in the TSE’s Fato ou Boato archive. Check that a result addresses the same claim, context and election; a similar phrase may refer to a different event. The archive contains dated checks and is updated over time.
- Inspect the original source. Open the page where the claim first appeared, if possible. Check the web address, publisher, author and publication date. A familiar logo or a forwarded screenshot is not enough to establish who published it.
- Read the full story. Headlines and short posts can omit qualifications or context. Read the article and examine what evidence it provides, including links to documents or statements it relies on.
- Corroborate independently. Compare the claim with other reliable reporting and, where it concerns an electoral rule or service, the relevant official TSE information. Distinguish an explanation of procedure by the Electoral Justice from a fact-check produced by a named outlet; neither label removes the need to understand the evidence and context.
The TSE recommends checking the source, the complete story, the website address, publisher, date and author, and comparing information with other reporting. Its public Fato ou Boato page was created in 2020 and was updated for the 2026 elections, according to a TSE announcement dated 21 August 2026. That announcement lists ten partner fact-checking organizations: AFP, Agência Lupa, Aos Fatos, Boatos.org, Comprova, E-farsas, Estadão Verifica, Fato ou Fake, Justiça Eleitoral and UOL Confere. See the TSE’s 21 August 2026 update announcement.
When you find a check, read how the outlet reached its conclusion and whether it addresses the same date, place and circumstances as the post you saw. The archive is a useful starting point, not a guarantee that every new or differently framed claim already has an entry.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse the right official tool for the task
TSE tools serve different purposes. Use official information and the correct app or reporting channel for the question at hand; a voter-service app or complaint form is not a general fact-checker.

| Need | Tool or source | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Check a claim or learn how to spot false news | Fato ou Boato | Provides checked election-related claims and educational guidance. |
| Access voter services or check a voting location | TSE’s 2026 election information and e-Título | Use official Electoral Justice information for procedures. The TSE describes e-Título as its official, free app for Android and iOS; consult its current information for available services and instructions. |
| View a polling-place result bulletin | Boletim na Mão | Reads the QR code on the printed boletim de urna and provides a digital copy of that polling place’s result. It is not a claim-checking app. |
| Report suspected irregular campaign advertising | Pardal | Accepts reports about suspected irregular campaign advertising. Follow the current election-specific instructions; the TSE app page says its 2026 availability began on 16 August 2026. |
| Report notably false or decontextualized information that may harm electoral integrity | Siade | The TSE identifies Siade as a public reporting route for this type of information. Filing a report is not the same as independently proving that a claim is false. |
Find the TSE’s descriptions of these services and channels in its 2026 election information center and the Fato ou Boato update announcement. For voter procedures, polling locations, certificates or other services, navigate from the TSE’s own site or app rather than relying on links forwarded in messages.
What the TSE says about electronic voting machines
In a current claim check, the TSE says Brazil’s electronic voting machine does not have internet, Wi-Fi, a mobile-phone chip or an antenna, and describes inspection and audit procedures. Those points should be understood as the claims on that official page, not stretched into a broader conclusion about every allegation involving elections or election technology. Read the TSE’s explanation of the voting machine and its safeguards for the procedures it describes.

The same TSE page separately warns about online fraud involving fake links, stolen passwords, cloned apps or unauthorized access to a device. A claim about such fraud should not be confused with a claim about the machine’s connectivity: check what system, account or device the claim actually concerns, and use official TSE channels for procedures.
Choose sources by purpose, evidence, date and scope
- Purpose: Is the need to verify a claim, complete a voter service, view a result bulletin or report a possible violation? Choose the corresponding channel.
- Authority and evidence: Official TSE information is the relevant source for the Electoral Justice’s procedures. A fact-check should be attributed to the outlet that produced it and assessed through the evidence it presents.
- Date and election context: Check when the information was published and whether it concerns the same election, location and circumstances. Instructions and archive entries can change.
- Scope: Confirm that a reporting service accepts the issue you want to submit. Pardal and Siade address different kinds of reports; neither is a substitute for checking a claim yourself.
The TSE’s 2026 election center also describes its disinformation program as mobilizing more than 70 institutions. That is a broader program count, not the number of partner fact-checking organizations listed in the Fato ou Boato update.
