Those tags are different from ordinary affiliate URLs pasted into a live chat or stream description. YouTube’s guidance explains how to tag products in live streams, but it does not set out a special 24/7 workflow or guarantee that tags remain visible through every restart or interruption.
First, choose what you mean by an affiliate link
YouTube offers two distinct ways to direct viewers to products:
- YouTube Shopping product tags: Native tags connect a product featured in the stream to a participating retailer. Eligible creators may earn a commission when viewers make qualifying purchases.
- Ordinary affiliate URLs: These are external links you place in a live chat or in the channel description for a horizontal livestream. They are not native Shopping tags, and their clickability is subject to YouTube’s link and feature-access rules.
If you mean YouTube’s affiliate program, use native product tags when the product is available in your Shopping tools and is meaningfully featured in the stream. A pasted URL is a separate option, not a substitute for the native tagging workflow.
Check whether your channel can use the affiliate program
YouTube’s affiliate program overview says a channel must be in the YouTube Partner Program, meet the applicable subscriber threshold, be based in a currently listed country, and satisfy channel and audience eligibility requirements. The listed countries are Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. Availability and requirements can change, so check your current status and available affiliate offers in YouTube Studio before planning a stream around product tags.

If the affiliate tools are unavailable to your channel, you cannot use the native affiliate-tag method described here. You may still be able to share ordinary external links, subject to YouTube’s advanced-features requirement for clickable external links and its external-links policy.
Tag products for the livestream
- Choose products that genuinely fit the content. Select items that are prominently featured, safely used, and meaningfully related to the stream. YouTube may not display tags for some content, and products must be available through the Shopping tools for your channel.
- Open the live tagging controls. In the live-stream setup or editing workflow, use the Shopping panel to select products available to your channel. YouTube’s live tagging instructions describe a workflow that allows up to 60 products.
- Arrange products in the order they appear. For a stream that showcases several items, order the tags to match the presentation. YouTube recommends tagging relevant products in the order shown.
- Finish the selection in advance. YouTube recommends completing product tagging at least 30 minutes before the livestream for the best viewer experience. A changed product selection may not become visible to some people already watching.
- Make the product easy to find during the stream. Give viewers a clear call to action and identify the relevant item as it appears. The product interface lets viewers review the tagged items.
YouTube also says products can be tagged after a stream for replay display. The live instructions describe tagging through the Shopping panel; they do not establish a separate tagging procedure for a stream that runs continuously for days or weeks.

Disclose commissions and paid endorsements
Tell viewers that you may earn a commission when they buy through affiliate product tags. If the stream features a paid endorsement, use YouTube’s branded-content disclosure and follow the disclosure requirements that apply where you and your audience are located. A disclosure should be clear to viewers; do not rely on the product tag alone to explain that you may earn a commission.
Understand how commissions are calculated
A rate displayed in the affiliate tools is an estimate, not a guaranteed payout. YouTube says the rate in effect on the date of purchase governs the commission, so rates can change. A viewer in another country may be matched to a local merchant and that merchant’s active rate. Do not promise a fixed commission amount based only on the rate visible while preparing the stream.

How ordinary affiliate URLs differ
YouTube lists live chat and the channel description on horizontal livestreams as places where creators can share links. Clickable external links require access to advanced features, and shared URLs remain subject to YouTube’s external-links policy. Do not assume that every link is clickable in every viewing layout, or that a URL will appear or behave like a native Shopping product tag.
If you use both methods, keep them distinct: native tags are selected products in YouTube Shopping, while an ordinary affiliate URL leads to an external destination. Check that any external destination and the way you describe it comply with the relevant platform rules and applicable disclosure requirements.

What 24/7 operation changes—and what it does not
The Shopping guidance covers livestreams generally; it does not document an affiliate-specific 24/7 tagging process, promise continuous product-tag availability, or explain how tags behave across every stream restart or technical interruption. Treat the product-tag setup and the technical operation of a nonstop stream as separate tasks. Confirm in YouTube Studio that the intended products are available and tagged, and check the stream’s presentation after setup rather than assuming a tag will persist through every operational change.
YouTube says shopping livestreams can be hosted using an encoder or a mobile device. It does not state that either method is required to add affiliate product tags or keep a stream continuous. Its recommendation of a planned stream lasting at least 30 minutes to an hour appears in guidance about selling a creator’s own products; it is not an affiliate-specific rule and does not prohibit or endorse a 24/7 affiliate stream.

If your 24/7 stream consists of prerecorded video, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it does not re-encode or offer quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Its cloud playback does not change YouTube Shopping eligibility or guarantee product tags remain visible through every restart.
