Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo use XSplit Broadcaster as a webcam, add your camera as a source, arrange it in a scene, then select XSplit Broadcaster in your video-call app’s camera settings. You can send the current Live Scene or choose a particular scene through Playout → Virtual Camera. You do not need a separate webcam if your computer already has a usable camera.
Set up XSplit Broadcaster as your webcam
- Add your camera. In XSplit Broadcaster, choose Add Source → Camera / Capture Card, then select your built-in webcam, USB webcam, or connected camera.
- Build the scene. Arrange and resize the camera in the scene. Add other sources or a background only if you want them included in the image sent to the call.
- Start the virtual camera. For the current Live Scene, use that scene as your output. To send a different scene, choose Playout → Virtual Camera and select the scene you want.
- Select XSplit in the call app. Open the app’s video or camera settings and choose XSplit Broadcaster as the camera. XSplit documents this workflow for Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Discord; the exact settings menu varies by app and may change with updates.
- Check the result. Preview the image in the call app and confirm that the scene, framing, and any overlays appear as intended.
These menu paths follow XSplit’s virtual-camera guide, accessed October 3, 2026: XSplit’s virtual-camera instructions.
Choose what the call receives
Current Live Scene or a specific scene
By default, the virtual camera uses Broadcaster’s current canvas output. If you want a different scene—such as one without overlays—choose it under Playout → Virtual Camera. Check the scene before joining or presenting: the selected output, not merely the scene open in your workspace, determines what the call receives.
Resolution
The virtual camera uses Broadcaster’s current canvas resolution, up to 1080p. The video-call service can impose a lower limit or downscale the feed, so a 1080p canvas does not guarantee that other participants receive 1080p video.

Background removal
For supported camera sources, open Camera Source Settings → Background Removal to configure XSplit’s background removal. The guide includes quality and hardware-acceleration options. To show a replacement image, add a Background source and arrange it behind the camera in the scene.
Route audio separately
The virtual camera carries video; meeting audio input is selected separately in the conferencing app. To send audio from your Broadcaster scene, select XSplit Audio (Broadcaster) as the meeting app’s microphone.

How you capture your own microphone depends on the audio mode:
- Presentation Sources mode: Add the microphone or headset as an Audio Device source, or set it as a Global Recording Device in the Audio Mixer.
- System Devices mode: Set the default microphone in Audio Settings. Avoid adding that same microphone a second time, since duplicate capture can cause echo.
If you only need your normal microphone and not scene audio, choose that microphone directly in the meeting app instead of XSplit Audio. XSplit’s virtual-camera guide describes the audio modes and routing.

Adjust camera controls if the picture flickers
Depending on the camera, Broadcaster may expose video size, frame rate, brightness, gain, contrast, zoom, tilt, focus, and saturation controls. If lighting changes cause the image to flicker, XSplit recommends disabling auto-white balance or auto-exposure in the camera controls, if the device provides those options. Available controls vary by camera; see XSplit’s camera tips.
Requirements and license caveats
XSplit’s current support documentation lists Broadcaster as Windows-only, with Windows 10 or 11 64-bit required. Its stated minimums are a 2nd Generation Intel Core i5 or equivalent processor, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce- or Radeon-class graphics card supporting DirectX 10.1 or better, 250 MB of available storage, and broadband internet. These are vendor requirements, not an independent guarantee of performance for every scene or camera. The same documentation says Windows 8.1 and earlier are no longer supported by the current version. See XSplit’s system requirements.

Troubleshoot common problems
- XSplit Broadcaster is missing from the camera list: Confirm Broadcaster is open and the virtual camera is active. Reopen the app’s camera settings and check the device list again. If it remains unavailable, restart the call app after starting Broadcaster.
- The call shows the wrong scene: Check which scene is selected under Playout → Virtual Camera, or return to the intended Live Scene output.
- Video is lower resolution than expected: Confirm the Broadcaster canvas resolution, then account for the conferencing app’s own resolution limit or downscaling.
- Participants cannot hear the scene: Select XSplit Audio (Broadcaster) as the meeting microphone and verify the relevant audio source is configured in Broadcaster’s selected audio mode.
- There is an echo: In System Devices mode, remove a duplicate microphone capture if the default microphone is also added elsewhere. Ensure the call app is using only the intended input.
- Your face appears mirrored: A mirrored self-preview does not necessarily mean other participants see a reversed image. XSplit notes that Google Meet mirrors the local preview by default while participants see the video in the correct orientation. Do not assume other apps behave the same way.
- The image flickers when lighting changes: If available for your camera, disable auto-white balance or auto-exposure in its controls.
Do you need extra hardware?
No—not for the basic setup if you already have a working built-in or connected camera. XSplit supports adding built-in and USB-connected cameras as sources. An external webcam is an option if you lack a camera or want different image quality, but a capture card, separate microphone, lights, and tripod are not requirements for using XSplit as a webcam. See XSplit’s webcam information.
