To turn on Voice Isolation during an iPhone phone call, open Control Center while the call is active, tap Phone Controls, then choose Voice Isolation under Audio & Video. The feature requires iOS 16.4 or later and an iPhone XR, iPhone XS model, or later, according to Apple’s instructions.
Turn on Voice Isolation during a call

Start or answer a phone call and leave it active.

Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.

Under Audio & Video, tap Voice Isolation.
Control labels can vary with your system language. The setting is available from Control Center during the call, rather than as a switch in the main Settings app. Apple’s steps do not require headphones or a separate microphone.
Which iPhones and iOS versions support it?
For phone calls, Apple lists iPhone XR, iPhone XS models, and later, running iOS 16.4 or later. Voice Isolation on calls using certain AirPods models is documented separately; AirPods are not required to use the iPhone’s call control. See Apple’s AirPods call instructions.

What Voice Isolation changes
Apple describes Voice Isolation as a mode that “Prioritizes your voice and blocks ambient noises.” It is intended to make your voice the focus for the person on the other end; Apple does not provide a noise-reduction percentage in its instructions.

Standard: Uses standard voice processing.

Automatic: Chooses a mode based on call context. On iOS 18 or later, Apple gives Voice Isolation for calls using the receiver and Standard for speakerphone calls as an example.

The selected mode applies only to the app you are using and remains in effect for that app until you select a different Mic Mode.

If Voice Isolation is missing

Check that a call is active. The control appears in Control Center during a call, not as a general Settings toggle.

Check the iPhone model. Apple’s supported list begins with iPhone XR and iPhone XS models.

Open the active app’s controls. In Control Center, tap the controls for the app handling the call; the label may differ if your iPhone uses another system language.
