Short answer: YouTube documents how to go live with an encoder, but the available official guidance does not confirm a current, reproducible VLC-to-YouTube setup. So don’t rely on guessed VLC menus or stream settings for a 24/7 broadcast. First clear the rights to every recording, check that your channel can livestream, then use YouTube Studio’s documented encoder workflow with an encoder you have verified. What you can—and can’t—reliably do with VLC
VLC can play media, but that alone does not establish that your current VLC version and operating system can send a dependable YouTube Live stream directly. YouTube’s documented workflow explains how to send a stream from an encoder; it does not provide VLC-specific configuration instructions. The official guidance cited here therefore is not enough to give you a verified VLC menu path, stream URL format, codec choice, or 24/7 operating procedure.
For a live broadcast, use an encoder whose current YouTube workflow you can verify, and follow its instructions for entering YouTube’s server URL and stream key. If you specifically want to use VLC, check the documentation for your exact VLC version and operating system before building the broadcast around it. Do not assume that a VLC streaming option or a copied command found elsewhere will work with YouTube’s current ingest settings.
Before you start: rights and channel eligibility
Get permission for every recording and asset
Being devotional, religious, or traditional in subject does not by itself make a recording free to broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the streamer to hold the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A detected match may interrupt or terminate a stream; even if you have a licence, the rightsholder may need to allowlist your channel for the stream to proceed without interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube’s getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. It also says streamers must be at least 16. Check the channel’s status in YouTube Studio and review the current requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming setup page before planning a launch.

Documented YouTube setup with an encoder
The following is YouTube’s generic encoder workflow, not a VLC-specific recipe. Exact controls and settings depend on the encoder you choose; use its current documentation for the device-specific configuration. YouTube’s instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream. Review the stream details and audience settings before proceeding.
- Get the ingest details from Studio. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key like a password: use it only in your encoder, do not publish it, and reset it in Studio if it is exposed.
- Enter those details in your encoder. Follow the encoder’s instructions for its YouTube destination and paste in the server URL and key. Do not improvise resolution, bitrate, codec, or keyframe values: the sources cited here do not establish VLC-specific values or settings.
- Start sending the programme, then check the preview. Start the encoder’s output and confirm that the incoming video and audio appear correctly in YouTube Live Control Room before going live.
- Go live and monitor the broadcast. Check that the watch page is accessible and that picture and sound remain usable. For a long run, YouTube also advises checking the local archive file as it grows; arrange a local recording if you need a backup.
For a devotional-song playlist, check the order and transitions before starting, and make sure that the content being sent is the content you have rights to broadcast. A stream key lets an encoder send a signal; it does not grant music rights or guarantee that YouTube will leave a stream uninterrupted.

Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete replay matters, do not depend on one uninterrupted 24-hour YouTube event to produce it: keep a local recording plan and check that the file is actually growing. YouTube’s archive guidance is at Archive live streams.
DVR is a separate consideration from archiving. YouTube warns that rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours; see Turn on DVR on live streams. A continuous broadcast therefore may not offer viewers a full rewind or a complete later replay.

Copyright permission and monetization are separate questions
Permission to broadcast a recording does not automatically make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s reused-content policy says channels may be ineligible when material lacks significant original contribution, and monetization also has separate programme eligibility rules. A continuous playlist of third-party devotional recordings should not be treated as automatically monetizable, even if copyright has been handled. Review YouTube channel monetization policies and the YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility.
Common problems and what to check
- The stream does not appear in Live Control Room: confirm that the encoder is sending, and recheck that it has the server URL and stream key copied from the correct YouTube Studio stream.
- YouTube interrupts or terminates the broadcast: check for a third-party-content match in Studio. Confirm that you have the necessary rights; if the content is licensed, ask the rightsholder whether your channel needs to be allowlisted.
- The channel cannot start a live stream: check channel verification and restrictions in Studio, then compare the account’s status with YouTube’s current live-stream eligibility requirements.
- The picture or sound is wrong: inspect the encoder’s output and YouTube’s preview before going live. Confirm the intended source, audio, and playlist order; use the selected encoder’s documentation for its settings rather than substituting unverified VLC values.
- The full broadcast is missing from replays: a YouTube archive is not assured for a stream longer than 12 hours. Use a local recording if you need a complete copy, and verify that it is being written during the broadcast.

YouTube’s live audience is not limited to one genre or country: YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is a platform-wide figure, not an India-specific estimate and not a prediction of viewership for a particular devotional stream.
