You can use YouTube Community posts to ask viewers what they want, preview relevant videos, share behind-the-scenes material, and keep a conversation going between uploads. Treat posts as a way to learn about and connect with your audience—not as a guaranteed way to increase views or subscribers. YouTube’s guidance describes potential reach and engagement, but does not quantify growth caused by posts.

What the Community Tab does—and what it does not promise

YouTube posts let eligible creators publish text, polls, quizzes, GIFs, images, and videos. Depending on the post and the viewer, posts can appear on your channel’s Posts tab or Home shelf, in Home or Subscriptions feeds, and— for image posts—in the Shorts feed. YouTube may send subscribers notifications, but notification delivery is not guaranteed. See YouTube’s overview of how posts work.

Use these surfaces as opportunities for interaction: ask a question, collect preferences, or give viewers a reason to return to your channel. YouTube says returning casual and regular viewers are more likely to be recommended more videos from a channel, but that is not evidence that posts trigger recommendations. A post’s impressions, likes, or votes do not by themselves demonstrate that it caused subscriber or view growth.

Choose a post with a clear purpose

Before writing, decide what you want the post to do for viewers and for your content plan. YouTube’s posts tips recommend regular posts that complement video uploads; the right cadence depends on your audience and your ability to participate.

Ask what viewers want next

Use a poll when the choices are straightforward—for example, which of two upcoming tutorial topics viewers prefer. Use an open question when you want explanations, suggestions, or personal experiences. Poll results are feedback, not a binding vote: consider them alongside your channel’s goals and what you can realistically produce.

Preview a relevant upload

Share a short teaser, a still image, or a question connected to an upcoming video. Make the post useful on its own rather than relying on a vague “coming soon” announcement. After the video is published, a follow-up can invite viewers to discuss a specific point from it.

Share behind-the-scenes material or an update

Use an image, GIF, or video when the visual adds context—such as showing a project in progress or explaining a change to your schedule. YouTube also lists member-only posts as an option for channels with memberships. Availability and visibility depend on the post type and channel settings.

Start a conversation

Ask a question that is easy to answer and relevant to your channel, then return to read and reply. A prompt that invites a concrete response is more useful than a generic request to “engage.” YouTube’s guidance on connecting with your community emphasizes ongoing conversation and interaction.

Pick a format that fits the response you want

Format Best fit Practical consideration
Poll Choosing between clear alternatives or gauging preferences Text and image polls support up to four options in YouTube’s current help guidance. Keep options distinct and easy to compare.
Quiz Testing knowledge or making a channel-related prompt interactive Use it when there is a meaningful correct answer; do not disguise an opinion question as a quiz.
Text Open questions, explanations, announcements, or follow-ups Be specific about the response you are inviting.
Image or GIF Showing a visual teaser, progress, or context that improves the post Desktop post creation supports up to 10 images per post according to YouTube Help.
Video Sharing a video as the post itself or pointing viewers toward relevant video content Choose video when watching it is central to the post’s purpose, not just to make a text update more elaborate.

These are practical choices, not a promise that one format will receive more reach. YouTube notes that post type can affect impressions, so compare like with like when reviewing results.

Create or schedule a post

YouTube documents post creation and scheduling through its native interface. The available options can vary by channel and access. For the current interface and format-specific directions, use YouTube’s Create a post instructions.

  1. Open YouTube while signed in to the channel. In the creation flow, choose the post option. On desktop, YouTube lists text, video, poll, quiz, and image posts.
  2. Select a format and write for the intended response. State the topic clearly, add the relevant media if it helps, and make the prompt or next step easy to understand.
  3. Review the post before publishing. Check that the image or video supports the message, poll choices are unambiguous, and the post follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines.
  4. Publish or schedule it. If scheduling is available in your interface, choose a time that complements your video publishing rhythm. Verify the post appears as intended after it is published.
  5. Return to the discussion. Read replies and respond where useful. A post is a conversation opportunity, not a substitute for moderating comments or following up with viewers.

Build a sustainable posting rhythm

YouTube recommends a regular schedule that complements video uploads and suggests weekly conversation starters, polls, or follow-up questions. Treat weekly as platform guidance, not a universal optimum. A sustainable schedule is one you can maintain while reading and responding to viewers.

  • Connect posts to the videos you are making rather than posting for frequency alone.
  • Vary the purpose—such as preference gathering, a useful preview, or a follow-up—so each post gives viewers a reason to participate.
  • Leave time to respond. If you ask for experiences or suggestions, acknowledge useful replies and make clear when you have taken feedback into account.
  • Adjust cadence when participation or your available time changes; there is no evidence here for a single ideal posting frequency.

Review post performance in YouTube Studio Analytics

Use Analytics to learn which posts attract responses and impressions, then treat the results as feedback for future decisions. YouTube’s Content tab tips describe sorting by Posts to review impressions and top posts by likes or votes.

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics. Use the Content tab and its Posts view, following the current YouTube Help instructions for your interface.
  2. Review impressions and top posts. Look at which posts draw likes or votes, and note the format, purpose, and topic of those posts.
  3. Compare similar posts and time windows. A poll and an image teaser may receive different impressions partly because of format. Compare similar formats where possible and consider whether the measurement periods are comparable.
  4. Use the pattern to shape a next post. For example, if a particular topic drew thoughtful replies, ask a more focused follow-up or develop it into a video idea. One successful post is a clue, not proof of a repeatable growth effect.
  5. Track channel outcomes separately. If you want to assess views or subscribers, review those outcomes independently and avoid attributing a change to posts based on likes or impressions alone.

Check access, audience settings, and moderation

Posts are not available to every channel or audience. YouTube says they are unavailable for supervised accounts and channels set as made for kids, and are not currently available in Germany. Access can also depend on channel role. If a feature is missing, check YouTube’s current posts availability guidance; location and eligibility can change.

Do not confuse the Posts feature with a dedicated Community space. Posts appear through channel and YouTube surfaces described above; a dedicated Community space is a place where subscribers can start discussions and share material, with its own eligibility criteria and visibility. YouTube says eligibility for a Community space includes existing posts access, being over 16, and meeting channel restrictions. Its Community-only posts have different visibility from Posts-tab posts. Check YouTube Help before planning around the dedicated space.

All Community content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. If you open a dedicated Community space, use its moderation settings, set expectations for participation, and consider assigning trusted moderators. Clear norms and active moderation help keep discussion appropriate to your channel.

Troubleshoot common post problems

  • The post option or a format is missing: Confirm that you are signed into the intended channel and have the necessary channel role. Check whether the channel’s audience setting or account supervision makes posts unavailable, and consult YouTube Help for current regional and feature eligibility.
  • A post does not appear where expected: Posts can appear on different YouTube surfaces depending on post type and viewer; notification delivery is not guaranteed. Check the channel’s Posts tab or Home shelf and allow for differences in feed presentation.
  • A poll has little participation: Review whether the choices are clear and whether the question is easy to answer. Try a more focused prompt, then compare with other posts of a similar format rather than assuming a platform-wide reach problem.
  • Impressions differ between posts: Compare format, topic, purpose, and time window. Because post type can affect impressions, a difference is not necessarily evidence that one topic or posting time caused better performance.
  • Replies need attention: Set expectations, review comments, and use moderation controls where available. For a dedicated Community space, YouTube provides moderation settings and moderator roles.

Or let it run in the cloud

Community posts are for conversation and audience feedback; they do not keep a YouTube livestream running. If you also want an uploaded video or playlist to loop as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home, videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not camera broadcasting. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
