Install and register Cypress Testing Library
-
Install Cypress Testing Library as a development dependency:
npm install --save-dev @testing-library/cypressIf Cypress is not already installed, follow the current Cypress installation guide for the requirements and installation steps for your environment. Requirements vary by release, operating system, browser, Node.js version, and package manager.

import '@testing-library/cypress/add-commands'Use the support-file path configured by your Cypress project if it differs from this typical location. The import must be loaded before a test calls the added queries.
-
Run Cypress as usual and call the queries from
cyin an end-to-end or component test.
Use retryable semantic queries in a test
Testing Library’s Cypress integration adds findBy and findAllBy query commands. These fit Cypress’s retryable command chain, so a test can wait for content to appear before acting on or asserting against it.

cy.findByRole('button', { name: /save/i }).click()
cy.findByRole('dialog').within(() => {
cy.findByRole('button', { name: /confirm/i }).should('exist')
})
The first query finds the button by its accessible role and name, then clicks it. The second scopes the confirmation-button query to the dialog. The Cypress Testing Library guide documents setup, supported query commands, scoping, and examples.

Choose a query that reflects the interaction
When the intended interaction is about a control a person can identify, use its role and accessible name—for example, findByRole('button', { name: /submit/i }). Other semantic options include findByLabelText for a labeled field, findByText for visible text, and findByPlaceholderText when the placeholder is the relevant locator.
Testing Library’s query guide explains the different query families and their behavior when an element is missing or appears asynchronously. In this Cypress integration, use the documented findBy and findAllBy commands; its guide says get* queries are not supported. It also notes that query* queries are no longer needed since integration version 5 and are slated for removal in version 6. Check the guide for the version you have installed before relying on that version-sensitive detail.

- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Scope queries when it makes the target clearer
You can scope a query to a container such as a form or dialog. The integration supports both jQuery elements and DOM nodes, and its guide shows usage such as cy.get('form').findByRole(...). Scoping can help when a page has multiple controls with the same role or name.
TypeScript setup
If TypeScript does not recognize the added Cypress commands, follow the integration guide’s TypeScript setup: add cypress and @testing-library/cypress to the types array under compilerOptions in tsconfig.json.

Configure the integration when needed
Most setups can use the standard support-file import. If you need to change the integration’s behavior, it also exposes cy.configureCypressTestingLibrary(config). Consult the official repository for the available configuration and implementation details; do not assume a configuration option exists without checking the version in your project.
Semantic queries or data attributes?
There is no universal winner. Cypress’s migration guidance describes both Testing Library queries and data attributes such as data-testid or data-cy. Choose according to what the test is meant to protect and the conventions already used in the application.
| Approach | Useful when | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|
Semantic query, such as findByRole or findByLabelText |
The test should locate a control as a user would identify it, and the accessible role, name, or label is meaningful. | Changes to visible wording or accessible names may require test updates; semantic queries also depend on the markup exposing the intended semantics. |
Application data attribute, such as data-cy or data-testid |
The project already has a data-attribute convention, or the test needs a stable hook that is not otherwise user-visible. | The attribute may need to be added to the application. The selector does not, by itself, express a user-facing interaction. |
Prefer the selector that makes the test’s intent clear without creating unnecessary application changes. A data attribute can be appropriate even when a semantic query is available, and a semantic query is useful only when it describes the behavior the test should verify.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Troubleshoot common setup and query failures
-
cy.findByRoleis not recognized: confirm@testing-library/cypressis installed and the support file imported@testing-library/cypress/add-commands. Verify that the support file is the one loaded by the current Cypress project and that the import runs before the test. -
TypeScript reports that the command does not exist: add
cypressand@testing-library/cypresstocompilerOptions.typesintsconfig.json, as described in the integration guide. -
A query cannot find a button by role and name: check that the page has loaded the expected content and that the control exposes the expected accessible role and name. If several matching controls exist, scope the query to a form, dialog, or other relevant container.

Or skip the browser setup
Testing Library with Cypress is for writing browser tests; if your goal is instead to capture a website screenshot by URL, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF. For example, using cURL:
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for API details. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for the free plan.
