You can’t use Streamlabs Music in YouTube streams anymore: Streamlabs discontinued the app in 2025. New users lost access when it was removed from the app store on March 6, and it stopped working in Streamlabs Desktop after March 31. To play music now, choose a current service whose license covers your YouTube livestream and any archived video; to take viewer song requests, use Streamlabs Media Share instead.
What happened to Streamlabs Music?
Streamlabs’ Changes to Streamlabs Music notice, published March 5, 2025 and last updated August 30, 2025, says the app was removed from the app store for new users on March 6, 2025. Existing users could keep using it until the end of March; beginning April 1, 2025, it was no longer available in Streamlabs Desktop. The old installation and player instructions are therefore not actionable.
Streamlabs says music previously used from Streamlabs Music remains DMCA-free in past recorded streams and YouTube uploads. That statement concerns music used through that app; it does not establish rights for newly sourced tracks or music from other services.

What music can you use in a YouTube livestream?
Use music only when you have permission for the specific track and the intended uses. Check whether the license covers YouTube live broadcasts, archived videos, your territory, and monetization if applicable. A “free” label or a credit in the description does not by itself prove permission.

YouTube recommends its Audio Library for copyright-safe music and sound effects. For music from other services, YouTube says to check the license for where and how it can be used. Streamlabs currently lists Pretzel Rocks and Slip.stream as music options: its page describes a free Pretzel player with an upgrade for more tracks, and Slip.stream access for Streamlabs Ultra subscribers. Streamlabs’ discontinuation notice says Pretzel’s free basic library is available without premium, while individual-track interactive mode and playlist creation require premium. These product descriptions do not guarantee that every track is cleared for every platform, territory, archive, or monetization use. Check current availability and each service’s track-specific terms before broadcasting.
Streamlabs’ current product page advertises over 600,000 “DMCA safe” tracks for Slip.stream. That is Streamlabs’ vendor claim, not an independently verified count or a guarantee that every track fits your intended use. See Streamlabs’ music options and confirm the applicable license directly.

How to set up viewer song requests with Media Share
Media Share and Cloudbot are separate from Streamlabs Music. They let viewers submit public YouTube video links; they do not restore the discontinued music player. Use this workflow if you want requests rather than a licensed music playlist.
The Tool Desk

- Set queue and duration controls, along with any request limits or moderation preferences available in your dashboard.
- If you want chat commands, enable the Media Share module in Cloudbot, configure the commands and preferences, and make sure the widget is enabled. Streamlabs’ current instructions specify that the

- Test a public YouTube video link before going live. Review available controls for the queue, volume, skipping, request limits, and blacklist actions, and moderate requests as they arrive.
Streamlabs’ Media Share setup guide includes platform-specific instructions, including Twitch details. Do not assume every Cloudbot moderation feature described there applies to YouTube. A public YouTube link being requestable does not grant you music rights: check the content’s license and YouTube’s rules before playing it on stream.

What YouTube’s copyright rules mean for live music
YouTube says it scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. For a livestream you archive, YouTube says Content ID claims can be made after the live stream finishes. Its livestream terms also require creators to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and verify that your permission covers the live broadcast and any archive.
If a claim or interruption occurs
- Stop or remove the disputed track if YouTube warns you during the broadcast; continuing with matched third-party content can lead to interruption or termination.
- For a claim on an archived stream, review the claim and the license for the specific track and use. Dispute only when you have a valid basis and supporting rights documentation.
- Keep records of track names, license terms, territory, permitted platforms, archive rights, and any attribution requirements. A service’s general “DMCA-safe” description is not a substitute for the applicable license.
