Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To take a website screenshot with ScreenshotAPI.net from Node.js, send a server-side GET request to its current v3 endpoint, https://shot.screenshotapi.net/v3/screenshot, with your API token and target URL, then save the response according to the format you requested. Keep the token out of browser code and source control. The example below uses Axios and handles HTTP errors before writing the image.
Set up your ScreenshotAPI.net credentials
- Create or sign in to your ScreenshotAPI.net account and get an API token from the dashboard. The token authenticates requests to the API. See the current render documentation.
- Store the token in a server-side environment variable or secret manager. Do not put it in client-side JavaScript, a public repository, or a URL that may be logged. ScreenshotAPI.net’s Terms of Service make account holders responsible for keeping credentials secret.
- If a token is exposed, rotate it in Dashboard settings. The terms say issuing a new key revokes the old one.
For a local project, add a variable such as SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKEN to your private environment configuration. Ensure that file is excluded from version control; in production, use the hosting platform’s secret configuration instead.
Install Axios and request a screenshot
The current render documentation and Playground use the v3 endpoint. The older getting-started page includes a legacy /screenshot example, so use the v3 route for this integration. The following CommonJS example uses Axios, whose request style is also shown in the current documentation. Axios is convenient, not mandatory.
- Install Axios:
npm install axios. - Set
SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKENin the environment where your server process runs. - Save the following as
screenshot.cjs, replacing the sample target URL with the page you need. - Run it with
node screenshot.cjs. On success, it writes the returned response bytes topage.webp.
const axios = require('axios');
const fs = require('node:fs');
async function capture() {
const token = process.env.SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKEN;
if (!token) {
throw new Error('Set SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKEN before running this script.');
}
try {
const response = await axios.get(
'https://shot.screenshotapi.net/v3/screenshot',
{
params: {
token,
url: 'https://example.com',
output: 'image',
file_type: 'webp'
},
responseType: 'arraybuffer',
timeout: 90000
}
);
if (response.status < 200 || response.status >= 300) {
throw new Error(`ScreenshotAPI.net returned HTTP ${response.status}`);
}
fs.writeFileSync('page.webp', Buffer.from(response.data));
console.log('Saved page.webp');
} catch (error) {
if (error.response) {
console.error('Screenshot request failed:', error.response.status);
console.error(Buffer.from(error.response.data).toString('utf8'));
} else {
console.error('Request could not be completed:', error.message);
}
process.exitCode = 1;
}
}
capture();
The endpoint, token parameter, target URL parameter, image response mode, and WebP format follow the service’s documentation. Confirm current parameter names and accepted values in the render documentation before changing formats or capture settings; API options can change.

Choose the response and capture settings
Image or JSON response
For an image response, request the documented image output and treat the body as binary bytes, as the example does. If you request JSON output instead, parse the response as JSON and follow the documented response structure; do not save JSON bytes with an image extension.
Image formats and PDF
Official materials list PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, and PDF output. Use the matching file extension and handle the returned content as the selected format. A PDF is not an image, so name and process it as a PDF rather than writing it to a .png or .webp file.
Viewport, full-page, and scrolling captures
The service documents viewport controls and full-page or scrolling capture options. Use a viewport appropriate to your application and choose full-page capture when content below the initial viewport matters. Confirm the exact option names and values in the current documentation rather than guessing from parameter names.

Freshness and cached screenshots
ScreenshotAPI.net may return cached output. The getting-started documentation describes fresh=true for requesting a current screenshot instead of an earlier cached result. Add that documented parameter when freshness matters, and check the getting-started page for its current behavior.

Use the response in an application
Writing to disk is useful for a script, but a server can also stream the binary response to a caller. Set the outgoing content type to match the requested format, and do not pass an upstream error body to the caller as if it were a valid image. For JSON output, return or transform the parsed JSON instead. Keep the API token on the server: a browser that calls ScreenshotAPI.net directly would expose the credential to users.
For concurrent or recurring captures, add application-level safeguards: impose a request timeout, handle rejected HTTP responses and network errors, and monitor account usage. Do not assume every successful HTTP request will fit within the account’s allowance.

Limits, costs, and reliability considerations
ScreenshotAPI.net’s pricing page currently lists the following monthly allowances and per-minute limits. The figures and any promotions can change, so confirm them on the official pricing page before choosing a plan.
| Plan shown on pricing page | Monthly screenshots | Requests per minute |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 1,000 | 20 |
| Startup | 10,000 | 40 |
| Business | 100,000 | 80 |
The pricing page also displays a seven-day trial with 100 screenshots and a first-month promotion; trial and promotional terms are volatile and are not a basis for estimating ongoing cost. The Terms of Service say unused monthly call allowances do not carry over. After a monthly limit is exceeded, calls may be blocked for the rest of the term or incur a per-screenshot charge depending on the applicable plan terms. Handle limit errors and monitor usage rather than relying on a fixed overage assumption.
For planning, estimate how many captures your app will make, whether repeated URLs can use cached results, and whether bursts fit the plan’s per-minute limit. If current output is essential, freshness settings may change cache behavior; test that choice against the service’s current documentation and your usage allowance.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Missing-token error: Confirm
SCREENSHOTAPI_TOKENis present in the Node.js process environment. Restart the process after changing environment configuration. - Authentication failure: Check that the token is copied correctly and belongs to the intended account. If it may have been exposed, rotate it in Dashboard settings; the old key is revoked when a new one is issued.
- Invalid URL or parameter: Pass the target as the
urlquery parameter through Axios’sparamsoption instead of concatenating raw URL text. Check the current render documentation for accepted option names and values. - Broken or unreadable image file: Make sure the request asks for image output and the HTTP client receives the body as binary data. Check the HTTP status and error response before saving; do not write a JSON response or an error page as an image.
- Unexpectedly old capture: The response may be cached. Use the documented
fresh=trueoption when you need a current capture, and verify its behavior against the current getting-started guidance. - Requests are rejected after a usage spike: Compare your traffic with the plan’s monthly allowance and per-minute rate limit. Add backoff or queueing for bursts, monitor usage, and check the current plan terms for over-limit handling.
- Request times out or fails on the network: Distinguish a client timeout from an HTTP error using Axios’s
error.responseanderror.message. Adjust the timeout to fit your app’s latency needs, and retry only when appropriate; indiscriminate retries can add load and consume quota.

ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://example.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
