Restream’s playlist feature can schedule a sequence of prerecorded videos to play as a YouTube broadcast, but it does not create a single endless, always-on stream. Restream documents a limit of 24 hours and 40 video entries per playlist, no playlist looping, and a two-minute gap between separately scheduled playlists. Follow the steps below to set up scheduled programming—and see the cloud alternative if you need a stream that keeps running.
What Restream playlists can—and cannot—do
A Restream playlist is a scheduled broadcast made from prerecorded videos. You can put clips in an order, add supported visual elements, preview the result, and schedule it to go live to a connected YouTube channel. Restream says a playlist can run for up to 24 hours and contain up to 40 video entries. These are limits reported in its playlist guide.
A playlist does not loop. You can schedule another playlist after it, but Restream says consecutive playlists are separate streams with a two-minute buffer—not one continuous broadcast. That makes the feature suitable for scheduled prerecorded programming, but not for an uninterrupted, indefinitely repeating channel.

Check YouTube live access
Make sure live streaming is enabled for the YouTube channel and that the connected Restream user owns the channel; Restream says a user who only manages or edits it is not sufficient. Its activation instructions say a new channel must verify a phone number and wait 24 hours before its first livestream. Check activation well before your scheduled start time using Restream’s live-streaming activation guide and YouTube connection guide.

Check playlist access and capacity
Restream’s playlist documentation places the feature in its paid Upload & Stream add-on tiers. The guide published July 25, 2026 lists these plan figures; they are Restream-reported details, not independently verified checkout prices, so confirm availability and terms before subscribing.
| Restream tier | Video library capacity listed | Maximum resolution listed | Price listed by Restream |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marathon | 4 hours | 1080p | $79/month — Restream, 2026 |
| Media | 12 hours | 4K | $239/month — Restream, 2026 |
Compare the library capacity with the total length of the videos you plan to upload, and check that the resolution meets your delivery needs. The playlist cap of 24 hours and 40 entries is separate from the listed library capacity.

Create and schedule a YouTube playlist
- Open the playlist builder. From Restream’s home screen, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Playlist. You can reopen a previous playlist to reuse it.
- Add videos. Select existing videos or upload files, then choose Next.
- Set the order. Drag the clips into the sequence you want. Use Add Video to add more files or a countdown. Each occurrence counts toward the 40-entry cap, including a repeated file.
- Customize the presentation. Add any available designs, captions, or QR codes that suit the broadcast.
- Preview or schedule. Preview the result, or select Schedule and choose when it should go live. Restream says a scheduled playlist starts automatically at its scheduled time.
- Create the YouTube event. When setting up the event, choose Playlist as the format, enter the event details, enable the YouTube destination, and create the event. Confirm the correct connected channel and start time before scheduling.
Restream’s playlist guide, YouTube event guide, and scheduling guide describe these steps.
Plan around the limits
Repeating content within one playlist
Because playlists do not loop, Restream’s documented workaround is to duplicate clips in the intended sequence—for example, A, B, C, A, B, C. Repeated clips count as additional entries, so the whole playlist must remain within 40 entries and 24 hours. This creates a finite repeated sequence, not an endless stream.

Editing after the broadcast begins
Arrange, add, or remove videos before the playlist goes live. Restream says that once the broadcast is underway, you can edit only graphics and chat; you cannot revise the video sequence then.
Scheduling playlists back to back
Restream reports a two-minute buffer between consecutive playlists, which remain separate streams. If a brief interruption is unacceptable, back-to-back scheduling does not meet that requirement.

Individual-video looping is a different feature
Restream separately documents looping one prerecorded video up to 10 times, for a maximum 40-hour stream. That applies to an individual video event, not a playlist; do not assume the individual-video limit or behavior applies to playlist broadcasts. See the individual-video loop guide.
Video settings and YouTube archive considerations
For encoder-based streams, Restream’s YouTube guide reproduces these recommended settings: H.264 video, 240p–2160p, 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second recommended keyframe interval (four seconds maximum). For audio, it lists AAC or MP3, 128 Kbps stereo or 384 Kbps 5.1, and 44.1 kHz stereo or 48 kHz 5.1 sample rate. These are Restream-reported recommendations; check YouTube’s current platform documentation for authoritative settings. The guide does not establish that every setting is configurable in the playlist builder.

Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube has no stream-duration limit but archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. Treat that as Restream’s description rather than an independently verified YouTube guarantee, and do not rely on a stream longer than 12 hours being archived in full. Archive availability is separate from the playlist’s 24-hour limit. Details are in Restream’s YouTube streaming guide.

- YouTube is unavailable as a destination: confirm live streaming is activated, connect the channel account that owns the channel, and complete any required phone verification and activation wait.
- The playlist will not accept more content: count repeated clips as entries and check both the 40-entry playlist limit and the account’s available video-library capacity.
- The playlist does not repeat automatically: playlist looping is not supported. Duplicate clips in sequence before going live, or use the separate individual-video loop feature if a single video is sufficient.
- There is a gap between scheduled playlists: the documented two-minute buffer is expected because each playlist is a separate stream; scheduling adjacent events does not make them seamless.
- You need to change a clip after going live: Restream says video ordering and entries must be set before the broadcast; during the broadcast, only graphics and chat can be edited.
- You expect a complete archive of a long broadcast: Restream’s guide warns that YouTube archives only streams under 12 hours. Avoid relying on a longer stream being archived in full.
Or let it run in the cloud
