Use Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() after loading your Hindi HTML with page.setContent() or opening it with page.goto(). To keep Devanagari text readable, use UTF-8, choose a font with Devanagari glyphs, and wait for web fonts to load before saving the PNG.
Capture Hindi HTML as a PNG with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, then create a page, load the HTML, wait for fonts, and call page.screenshot(). This example uses an HTML string and saves the full page to hindi.png in the current working directory:

In a JavaScript template string, use ordinary HTML tags as shown in the source; do not include the backslashes before the arrow in () => document.fonts.ready—write () => document.fonts.ready in HTML-escaped display, or () => document.fonts.ready as JavaScript source. This is a practical pattern, not a claim that a particular font or sample has been tested. The font family in the example must be available to Chromium—installed locally or loaded by the HTML—or the browser will use a fallback.

Choose how Puppeteer gets the page
Use page.setContent() for an HTML string
Call page.setContent(html) when your program already has the markup, such as a generated report or a saved HTML string. Any external stylesheets, images, and web fonts referenced by that markup still need to be reachable from the capture environment.
Use page.goto() for a served page
For a page available at a URL, navigate with await page.goto('https://example.com/page')> and then wait for the content and fonts your screenshot needs before capturing. The URL must be accessible to the browser process. Puppeteer’s page API documents both setContent() and navigation: Page.setContent() and Page.goto().

Make Devanagari render correctly
- Declare UTF-8. Include
<meta charset="utf-8">in the document head so Hindi characters are interpreted using the intended encoding. - Use a Devanagari-capable font. Select a font that contains the required glyphs. A generic fallback such as
sans-serifis useful, but it does not guarantee that the chosen font loaded or that the result matches your design. - Wait for web fonts explicitly. A remote font typically requires a stylesheet request and a font-file request. Wait for
document.fonts.readybefore the screenshot; the PDF optionwaitForFontsis documented separately and should not be taken as evidence that screenshots wait automatically. See Google Fonts: Getting Started, Google Fonts technical considerations, and PDFOptions. - Inspect the output. Confirm that glyphs, conjuncts, and line breaks look right in the PNG. A fallback can prevent empty boxes while still producing an unintended appearance.
No single Hindi font is established here as the best choice. Compare available fonts for Devanagari coverage, visual style, and reliable availability in the browser environment where the capture runs.
Control the screenshot output

For a single element rather than the page, locate it and call ElementHandle.screenshot(). Puppeteer documents that this method scrolls the element into view when needed and then captures it using the page screenshot mechanism: ElementHandle.screenshot().

Troubleshoot missing or incorrect Hindi text
- Characters appear as boxes or question marks: check the HTML encoding and verify that the active font contains Devanagari glyphs. Confirm the intended font actually loaded rather than assuming the CSS declaration guarantees it.
- The screenshot uses a fallback font: inspect stylesheet and font-file requests, ensure the capture process can reach them, and wait on
document.fonts.readybefore capturing. - Text is cut off: set a viewport appropriate to the layout, or use
fullPage: truewhen content extends below it. For a deliberately narrow capture, check wrapping and overflow in the rendered page. - The PNG is blank or incomplete: confirm that the HTML or URL loaded successfully and that required resources are available before calling
screenshot(). For dynamic pages, wait for a relevant selector or application-ready condition instead of relying only on an immediate capture. - The file is not where expected: check the process’s current working directory when using a relative
path, or provide an absolute path.

Does Puppeteer save screenshots as PNG by default?
Yes. PNG is the documented default for `Page.screenshot()`; you can still set `type: ‘png’` explicitly.
Can Puppeteer screenshot an HTML string without hosting it?
Yes. Load the string with `page.setContent(html)` before taking the screenshot.

Does `quality` make a PNG screenshot sharper?
No. Puppeteer’s screenshot `quality` option does not apply to PNG.
