To loop one Sanskrit shloka recording in OBS, add it as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. For several recordings, create a playlist with OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream using the stream URL and stream key, check the preview, and start the broadcast.
Choose a single-file loop or a playlist
One recording: Media Source
Use this when you want one audio or video file to repeat continuously. OBS Media Source supports formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV.
- In OBS, select the scene that will carry the shloka.
- In the Sources panel, click + and choose Media Source. Give it a recognizable name and confirm.
- In the source properties, choose the local file. Enable Loop.
- Leave Restart playback when source becomes active enabled if you want playback to begin at the start whenever the source becomes active. It is enabled by default in the documented settings.
- Confirm the properties and check the OBS preview. Play the source and listen for clear, audible sound; if the file includes text or imagery, make sure it is legible in the preview.
Several recordings: VLC Video
Use the VLC Video source when the broadcast needs multiple files in a particular playlist. VLC must be installed, and its architecture must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Install the matching VLC version if it is not already installed.
- In OBS, select the scene and use Sources > + > VLC Video.
- Add the files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist and confirm the source properties.
- Check the preview and listen through the transitions between files so you can catch missing audio or unexpected gaps before broadcasting.
For one clip, Media Source is the simpler route. Choose VLC Video when you need a sequence of clips or playlist controls; the documented controls do not establish a quality advantage for either option.

Check YouTube channel readiness and rights
- Confirm that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. If live streaming is being activated for the first time, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Check that you have permission to broadcast the actual recording, performance, arrangement, and any accompanying images. The fact that a shloka is traditional does not by itself establish that a particular modern recording or artwork is free to rebroadcast.
- Decide whether the stream should be public, unlisted, or private in YouTube Studio, and confirm the intended audience and broadcast details before starting.
Connect OBS to a YouTube Live encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and create or select an encoder stream in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube uses these to tell the encoder where to send the feed and to accept it.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key, or connect using the available account flow. If using the URL-and-key method, enter the supplied server URL and key in the corresponding fields.
- Apply the settings. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share it or show it on screen. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
- Click Start Streaming in OBS. Wait for the Live Control Room to receive the feed and display its preview. Check the picture and sound there before starting the public broadcast in YouTube Studio if the stream is not set to start automatically.
Set reliable video and network output
The shloka file loops locally, but OBS must continuously encode and upload its output. Use YouTube’s encoder guidance as the platform-specific reference for the selected resolution and frame rate; the right bitrate depends on those choices and on the upload connection.
- YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS and recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Choose a bitrate the upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends leaving 20% network headroom rather than using all available upload bandwidth.
- Match output resolution and frame rate to the source and intended viewer experience. A static devotional image with audio usually does not need an unnecessarily high frame rate; avoid choosing settings your connection cannot sustain.
YouTube’s recommendations are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a particular home connection will stay stable. Test the actual OBS output and monitor stream health in the Live Control Room.

Test the loop before the public broadcast
- Start the source in OBS and confirm it plays from the beginning.
- For a single file, watch it reach the end and begin again. For a playlist, confirm that clips play in the selected order and that the playlist repeats.
- Check audio level and intelligibility, including the transition at the loop point. Confirm any devotional text or artwork is readable at the planned output size.
- Run a test stream before the intended broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, then monitor audio and video quality while live.
Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
The file stops instead of repeating
Reopen the Media Source properties and verify Loop is enabled. If you intended to repeat a set of files, make sure you used VLC Video and enabled Loop Playlist.
The VLC playlist source is missing or will not work
Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. The documented requirement is 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.

OBS is streaming, but YouTube has no picture or audio
Check that OBS is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and key, then confirm the source is visible and playing in the OBS preview. Wait for the Live Control Room preview and inspect its audio and video before going live.
The stream drops or becomes unstable
Check OBS and YouTube stream health, then reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the upload connection cannot sustain it. Leave the recommended network headroom instead of saturating the connection. Confirm that CBR and a compliant keyframe interval are configured.

The stream key may have been exposed
Reset the key in YouTube Studio and replace the old value in OBS. Do not continue using a key that may be known to someone else.
Live streaming cannot be activated yet
Verify the channel and check for live-streaming restrictions. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete it before the planned broadcast rather than at the last minute.
