Node.js includes SQLite support through the node:sqlite module. You can open an in-memory or file-backed database, create and run prepared statements, and read results without installing a separate SQLite package. The API is synchronous and is classified as a release candidate in the Node.js v24.21.0 and v25.9.0 documentation, so check the documentation for the Node.js version you deploy.
Import the built-in node:sqlite module
The module uses the node: prefix. In an ES module, import DatabaseSync like this:

Open a database and create a table
For a self-contained example, :memory: creates a database held in memory. Its contents are not persisted as a database file after the connection and process are gone. Pass a filesystem path instead to use a file-backed database.

`);exec() executes SQL directly, making it convenient for a schema statement such as CREATE TABLE. For statements that include values supplied by a user or another part of an application, prepare the statement and bind those values rather than constructing SQL by concatenating strings.
Prepare statements, bind values, and read results
Prepare an insert once, then call run() with values for its placeholders. A query can use the same positional-placeholder approach:

console.log(select.all());The query prints an array of row objects, for example [{ key: 1, value: 'hello' }, { key: 2, value: 'world' }]. Choose the statement method according to the result you need:
all()returns all matching rows as an array.get()returns the first matching row.iterate()returns an iterator over result rows, which lets code consume them one at a time.run()executes a statement such as an insert or update and returns a summary of database changes rather than query rows.
For input values, placeholders keep data separate from SQL syntax. Node’s prepared-statement guidance recommends prepared statements over hand-built SQL strings when handling user input and says parameter binding protects against SQL injection.

Account for synchronous execution
DatabaseSync represents a database connection, and all APIs exposed by this class execute synchronously. A database call therefore occupies the JavaScript thread running it until the call returns. Consider that behavior when deciding where the API fits; the documentation does not establish a general performance comparison with third-party SQLite libraries or suitability for every server workload.
Know the maturity and type-conversion limits
The version-specific Node.js v25.9.0 documentation labels node:sqlite Stability 1.2, Release candidate, and records the release-candidate transition in v25.7.0. The v24.21.0 documentation uses the same stability classification and records that transition in v24.15.0. The module was added in v22.5.0. These are version-history details, not a promise that status or behavior will remain unchanged; consult the reference for the Node.js version you use (and the v24.21.0 reference for that line).

SQLite values map to only a subset of JavaScript types, and attempts to write unsupported types throw an exception. SQLite integers that exceed JavaScript’s safe integer range also need care: the default number representation cannot safely express every such value. When large integer values matter, configure the statement to read them as BigInt:

const row = statement.get();The v25.9.0 API reference documents this statement option and the conversion behavior. Check the versioned API documentation for other options as well: for example, v25.9.0 records that the database option defensive is enabled by default beginning in v25.5.0, which should not be assumed for older Node.js versions.
