If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still take a Lyft ride through Lyft Concierge—but an organization must arrange the ride for you. A landline can receive ride updates; it does not let you independently request an ordinary Lyft. If you have an older smartphone that cannot run the latest Lyft app, Lyft says you may be able to request a ride using the phone’s mobile browser.
Choose the option that matches your situation
| Your situation | What may work | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| You have an older smartphone that cannot run the latest Lyft app | Try Lyft in the phone’s mobile browser, as described in Lyft’s phone software recommendations. | This is a mobile-browser option, not a documented way to book from a desktop computer or landline. |
| You have no smartphone or mobile phone | Ask a family member, care provider, or another organization to arrange a Lyft Concierge ride and set up updates. | The organization—not the passenger—books the Concierge ride. Access and availability depend on the organization and area. |
| You have a mobile phone but no internet and someone is arranging a Flexible Concierge ride | Lyft says a rider with a mobile phone can call to request a ready-to-go Flexible ride. | This does not work for a rider with no mobile-phone access; ask the organization to schedule a Concierge ride in advance instead. |
Why you can’t book an ordinary Lyft by landline or computer
Lyft distinguishes ordinary rides from Concierge rides. Its Concierge Rider FAQs state: “Note that Lyft rides can only be requested via the mobile Lyft app, not by phone call or computer.” The same FAQ says, “You don’t need the app to take a Lyft Concierge ride.” That exception exists because an organization books the Concierge trip; it does not make phone or computer booking available for ordinary Lyft rides.
How to arrange a Lyft Concierge ride without a phone
- Ask an organization that may be able to arrange the ride. Contact a family member acting through an eligible organization, a care provider, or another organization and ask whether it can book through Lyft Concierge. Lyft’s guidance does not establish that every organization can use Concierge or that rides are available in every area.
- Have the coordinator book a pre-scheduled Concierge ride. Give the coordinator the pickup and destination details and agree on how the passenger will identify the vehicle and meet the driver. If the passenger has no mobile-phone access, do not assume a ready-to-go Flexible Concierge request is suitable.
- Choose a number for ride updates. Lyft can send automated calls to a landline with the vehicle model, license plate, pickup address, driver name, and estimated arrival time. Lyft’s guidance says international phone numbers are not supported at this time. See Lyft Business Help’s instructions for riders with no mobile phone.
- Arrange a relay if the passenger cannot answer calls. Lyft recommends giving the coordinator’s number or another suitable contact’s number if the passenger has no phone they can access. That person can pass the ride details to the passenger.
- Confirm payment arrangements with the coordinator. Lyft says the passenger should not pay the driver anything for a Concierge ride. Ask the organization how the trip is being arranged if you have questions about its costs.
If you have an older smartphone, try its mobile browser
If the phone is capable of browsing the web but cannot be upgraded to support the latest Lyft app, Lyft’s phone software recommendations and settings say a mobile browser may still work. Open Lyft on the phone’s browser and follow the available prompts. Lyft’s guidance does not say that this option works from a desktop computer, or that a landline can be used to request a ride.
Flexible Concierge is not the no-phone workaround
Lyft describes Flexible Concierge as an option for a rider with a mobile phone but no internet connection to call and request a ready-to-go ride. Its Flexible ride guidance says not to send a Flexible ride to someone without mobile-phone access. For that passenger, the organization should arrange a pre-scheduled Concierge ride instead.
