Use two separate Hexowatch monitors: an availability monitor to alert you when a URL becomes unavailable and returns, and a visual monitor to detect changes to a page or a selected screen area. They answer different questions; a visual change alert is not an uptime check, and a URL availability signal does not prove that every feature works for every visitor.
Choose the monitor that matches the problem

For the question “How can I tell if my website is down?”, start with availability monitoring. For “How do I track visual changes on my website?”, use visual monitoring. If both matter, configure both rather than expecting one monitor to cover the other.
Set up a visual-change monitor
- Select the visual monitoring tool.
- Enter the page URL and preview it. Confirm that the preview shows the page and state you intend to monitor.
- Choose the capture scope. Monitor the whole page or select a specific area. Hexowatch’s visual-monitor walkthrough explicitly documents both choices.
- Set the check frequency and notification channel or channels. The walkthrough also describes optional start and end dates.
- Start monitoring. Hexowatch says it will notify you when it detects visual changes.
Reduce noise from routine changes
If a full page includes content that changes often, such as rotating promotions or live information, consider monitoring a stable, decision-critical region instead. Review the first alerts: if ordinary changes repeatedly trigger them, adjust the selected area or other monitor settings. This is a practical way to reduce irrelevant alerts, not a claim that Hexowatch automatically filters every dynamic element.

- Create an availability monitor for the URL whose availability matters.
- Configure its interval and notifications using the options available to your account and plan.
- Save the monitor and use its alerts to learn when Hexowatch reports that the page is unavailable and when it returns.
This tells you about the monitored URL’s availability. It does not establish that checkout, login, scripts, or every other user journey is healthy, nor does the reviewed Hexowatch documentation establish a contractual uptime service-level agreement or a measured uptime percentage. For critical services, treat the alert as one operational signal, not a substitute for tests of the functions your users rely on.

Choose a cadence, notification channel, and plan
Hexowatch’s visual walkthrough says you can choose check frequency and notification channels. Its API documentation also describes configurable intervals and optional notification integrations. Do not assume that every interval or integration is included on every plan; check the plan terms for the account you are configuring.

Troubleshoot alerts and setup problems
Visual alerts arrive for harmless page changes
Some parts of a page change routinely. Review what changed and, if those changes are not important to your goal, narrow monitoring to a more stable area. Recheck the resulting alerts before relying on them operationally.

You need to know whether the site itself is reachable
A visual monitor answers whether the rendered appearance changed, not whether the URL is available. Add an availability monitor for the URL instead of treating the absence of a visual alert as proof that the page is up.
The URL is available but a user journey is broken
A page-availability alert does not establish that interactive functions work. Test the specific journey—such as signing in or completing checkout—separately with an appropriate functional check.

The desired interval or notification option is missing
Check the plan’s current limits and available integrations. Hexowatch’s plan allocations and maximum frequencies vary, and its documentation does not establish that every option is available to every account.
You need to monitor a JavaScript-rendered or password-protected page
The Hexowatch FAQ lists compatibility with JavaScript-rendered sites and password-protected areas as questions, but the reviewed FAQ content did not provide answers. Do not assume either behavior: confirm support with Hexowatch before building a monitoring workflow around it.
