Google One dark web monitoring no longer exists. Google’s Dark Web Report stopped taking on new monitoring on January 15, 2026, and the report became unavailable on February 16, 2026, when Google said the associated data would be removed. There is nothing left to set up. This article explains what the feature did, why Google ended it, and which Google tools cover related ground.
What happened to Google’s dark web report
Google’s notice gave two key dates. The first marked the end of new monitoring; the second marked the end of access to the report.
| Date | What changed |
|---|---|
| January 15, 2026 | New monitoring for results ended. |
| February 16, 2026 | The report became unavailable, and associated data was to be removed. |
Google’s Help Center article for the feature still contains setup instructions. Those instructions describe a workflow that no longer runs. Do not follow them expecting a working dashboard, and do not subscribe to a Google One plan to turn the feature on. Past results cannot be retrieved.

Google’s published explanation says: “While the report offered general information, feedback showed that it didn’t provide helpful next steps.” The company said it was shifting its focus to tools with clearer, more actionable steps.
#1 Best Overall
- WHAT DOES IT COVER: Roll once over names, addresses, account numbers, barcodes, and prescription details on mail, statements, shipping labels, and boxes before recycling. The patented 0.5" masking pattern hides 3 lines of text in one pass.
- HOW MANY USES DO YOU GET: Each pre-inked Guard Your ID Advanced Roller delivers about 1,000 impressions (roughly 100 feet of coverage), so the 3-pack gives you around 3,000. A twist-on cap keeps the ink fresh for a 2-year shelf life.
- DOES IT WORK ON GLOSSY LABELS: Yes, on most glossy and coated surfaces, plus paper, envelopes, junk mail, and prescription labels. Give the ink 10 to 15 seconds to dry on slick surfaces; it is instant on paper. Results vary by coating.
- IS IT REFILLABLE: No, and that is the point. The Advanced Roller is pre-inked and sealed, so there are no refill cartridges to buy, no ink bottles to handle, and nothing to dry out on the shelf. When one runs out, reach for the next roller.
- SHREDDER OR ROLLER: No jams, no paper dust, no noise, and the page stays intact and recyclable. Covers boxes and shipping labels a shredder cannot. Faster than a redacting marker, fits in a drawer. Turquoise, Green, White: mail, office, parent.
In practice, the report told you that a match had been found, without telling you what to do next. The tools Google now points to are built around specific actions, such as changing a password or asking for personal information to be removed from search results.
How the report worked before it closed
The report let an eligible consumer Google Account create a monitoring profile using its email address and, optionally, other personal details. Google’s original announcement described it as checking whether information such as a name, address, email address, phone number, or Social Security number appeared in dark-web data, and notifying the user when a match was found. Initial rollout was to Google One members in the United States.

Information the report could check
- Name, address, phone number, and email address
- Username and password
- Other personal details added to the optional profile
The Help Center’s results-filtering instructions also listed fields such as date of birth and credit card number. Those entries describe the old interface only. They are not evidence that Google was scanning those fields at the time of shutdown.

If you remember seeing this feature, these were the steps Google documented before the shutdown. The menu labels may have changed in the months before it closed, and none of these steps produce a working report today.
- Open your Google Account and go to the Security area.
- Find the entry labeled “Dark web report.”
- Start monitoring.
- Select any optional profile details you wanted to include.
- Confirm the information.
- Review results in the report.

Passkeys and two-step verification
Passkeys replace passwords with a device-based sign-in method. Two-step verification adds a second check at sign-in. Both reduce the damage a leaked password can do, which makes them the most useful response when you know a password has been exposed. For users who want a physical option, a FIDO security key can support passkey-based sign-in. A security key is an authentication device. It does not monitor breaches and does not bring back the Google feature.

Google Password Manager and Password Checkup
Google Password Manager stores your saved passwords. Password Checkup compares saved passwords against known exposures and flags the ones you should change. It works on passwords you have saved, so it will not surface breaches involving data you never stored with Google.
Results about you
Results about you helps you find personal information that appears in Google Search and request its removal. It covers search results, not breach dumps. That difference matters: a match on a data-breach site is not something this tool detects or removes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If you want breach alerts now
Independent breach-notification and personal data monitoring services exist, and they are the category that the discontinued report most resembled. This guide does not recommend a specific provider. If you evaluate one, compare these points before you sign up:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Which identifiers it monitors, such as email, phone number, or Social Security number
- Where its breach data comes from and how often it checks
- How quickly you receive an alert after a match is found
- Whether exposed data is redacted in the alert
- Whether it gives guidance on what to do after a match
- Its privacy practices and how long it retains the personal data you submit
- Which countries it covers
- Its price and cancellation terms
Use Google’s account tools for the account side of the problem, and use a monitoring service, if you choose one, for breach alerts. The two address different risks.
