Enter your route in Google Flights, then compare the calendar’s lowest displayed fares across departure and return dates. Use Dates and Price graph to widen the comparison, and verify the live fare and itinerary with the airline or travel agency before booking. The displayed price is a guide, not a guaranteed final fare.
Compare fares across dates
- Set up the search: Open Google Flights and enter your origin and destination. Select the trip type, passenger count, and cabin class that match your plans so you are comparing relevant fares.
- Open the date calendar: Look at the lowest displayed total price for nearby departure and return dates. Compare only dates you could actually travel; a lower fare is useful only if the schedule works for you.
- Expand the date range: Select Dates to explore which travel dates have the best fares. If you can shift your trip more broadly, use Price graph to view fare patterns across weeks or months. These views help identify dates to investigate, but they do not lock in the displayed price. Google’s guide to finding the best fares explains these tools.
Check whether a cheaper result is a better trip
A lower fare can come with a longer journey, a less convenient connection, or more complicated booking logistics. Compare the full itinerary and travel cost before choosing.
- Journey: Check total duration, number of stops, and connection details. Look closely for a self-transfer, where you may need to manage separate flight segments rather than rely on a protected connection.
- Airports: Review the airport for each leg. Some lower-priced options use different airports for the outbound and return flights, which can add ground transport, time, and coordination.
- Booking provider: The Best tab balances price, convenience, and ease of booking. The Cheapest tab prioritizes lower prices and can include online travel agencies or itineraries with trade-offs such as self-transfers or different airports.
- Alternative airports: Check the Airports section if nearby airports are practical. Add ground transport and extra travel time to the comparison rather than looking at airfare alone.
Track prices if you are not ready to book
Turn on price tracking for specific dates or choose Any dates if your route is flexible. Google says it emails you when tracked prices change significantly; if there is no large drop, it may send regular emails with the best available prices. Alerts are useful for monitoring, but they do not promise that a fare will fall or remain available. See Google’s instructions for tracking flights and prices on a computer.

Verify the fare before paying
Google Travel Help says flight prices are updated approximately once every 24 hours. That update cadence does not guarantee that a displayed fare will still be available when you book. Booking generally continues on an airline or online travel agency’s website, so confirm the current total, itinerary, and fare conditions with that seller before paying. For booking confirmation, changes, cancellations, or other booking issues, contact the airline or agency handling the reservation.
