To find a low airfare quickly, enter your route and realistic travel dates in Google Flights, compare nearby dates and airports, then check both Best and Cheapest results. Before choosing, compare the full itinerary and confirm the fare and booking terms with the airline or travel agency. The steps below are designed to take about two minutes, but that is a target—not a timed-test result or a promise of savings.
How to compare fares in Google Flights
- Enter your trip details. Open Google Flights and set your departure city or airport, destination, one-way or round-trip travel, passenger count, cabin class, and the dates you can actually travel. Starting with feasible dates keeps the comparison useful.
- Check nearby dates. Open the date selector and compare the fares shown on adjacent days. If your schedule is flexible, use the price graph to look across a broader period. Check the airport information too: a nearby departure or arrival airport may have a different fare, but include the time and cost of getting there in your comparison. - Review both result tabs. Compare Best, which weighs price and convenience, with Cheapest, which prioritizes low prices. - Inspect the complete itinerary. For each promising option, check the total fare, stops, total travel time, layovers, airport changes, and booking provider. In particular, confirm whether a connection requires you to collect and recheck baggage yourself or travel between different airports.
- Confirm with the seller. Select the option to continue to the airline or agency. Check that the current fare is still available, then review baggage charges, other add-on costs, and fare conditions before booking. - Track instead of guessing. If you are not ready to book, turn on price tracking for the route or a selected flight. Flexible travelers can choose Any dates; Google says it may email you when the route’s minimum price drops significantly over a month. Google’s price-tracking instructions.
Is Google Flights’ Cheapest tab really the cheapest?
It is the tab that prioritizes low prices, not a guarantee that every available fare is shown or that the displayed option is best for your trip. Google says it compares offers from over 300 travel partners, including airlines, online travel agencies, and aggregators, but its results may not include every available offer. Google does not state a publication year for that partner count on its help page, so treat it as Google’s stated figure rather than a newly measured 2026 inventory count. A lower headline fare can also mean more work or added risk. A connection may involve self-transfer baggage handling, or an onward or return leg may use a different airport. Compare the price against the extra time, transport, and connection requirements before deciding whether it is actually the better option.
Can Google Flights track prices?
Yes. You can track a route or a particular flight and receive email updates when prices change significantly. Use a specific flight when you have chosen an itinerary; use Any dates when your travel dates are flexible.
