To loop Indian car-feature footage into YouTube Live with FFmpeg, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, copy its ingest URL and stream key, then run FFmpeg with -stream_loop -1 and -re before the input file. This can keep sending a looping file while the process and connection remain healthy; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, constant bitrate (CBR), and a bitrate matched to your resolution, frame rate, and upload capacity.
Before you start: footage, rights, and channel eligibility
Prepare a loop that works as a live feed
Use a video file containing footage you own or are licensed to stream. Check not only the car visuals but also music, narration, logos, and any third-party clips. Because the footage will repeat, make sure the edit still makes sense when it returns to the beginning; avoid abrupt endings or transitions that become distracting on a loop.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A stream can be interrupted or terminated if identified content remains. Even when you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

YouTube’s getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take at least 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the day of your planned broadcast.

Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create or select an encoder stream for the broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key displayed for that event. Use the exact URL YouTube shows; do not assume one ingest endpoint applies to every event.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube treats it like a password: do not put the real key in a public script, screenshot, repository, or article. If it is exposed, use the stream-key settings to reset it.
The encoder sends media to YouTube’s server URL using that key. The key is a credential, not a harmless label.
Set a suitable resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
Match the output to the source footage, your encoding capacity, and a stable upload connection. YouTube’s published encoder settings (accessed in 2026) give these H.264 examples:

These are YouTube’s published settings, not a measurement of your particular connection. Run an upload speed test and select a bitrate your connection can sustain reliably, leaving room for normal variation and other network use. A nominal speed result is not a guarantee of stable streaming.

- Video: YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. The sample command below uses H.264.
- Rate control: CBR is YouTube’s guidance.
- Keyframes: use a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Stereo audio: YouTube’s advanced guidance lists AAC or MP3, with 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps as settings for stereo audio.
Loop a local video file with FFmpeg
This illustrative command assumes 30 fps H.264 output and a two-second GOP. It uses the published H.264 1080p30 minimum bitrate, not the recommended bitrate, and is not a tested universal configuration. Adjust it to your source, target quality, encoder, and tested upload capacity.

Replace the destination placeholders with the exact RTMPS server URL and stream key from Live Control Room; as written, they are not valid credentials. In a production setup, keep the key in protected configuration or a secret store, and quote the destination safely.
What the important options do
-rereads the file at its native frame rate to simulate a live feed instead of sending it as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely. These are input options, so put them before the corresponding-i.-c:v libx264selects software H.264 encoding;-preset veryfasttrades some compression efficiency for lower encoding effort.-b:v,-maxrate, and-bufsizeset video rate-control parameters. The example’s 5 Mbps reflects YouTube’s listed 1080p30 H.264 minimum, not a general recommendation.-g 60and-keyint_min 60set a 60-frame GOP in this 30 fps example, equivalent to two seconds. For a different frame rate, recalculate the frame count so the interval remains two seconds.-sc_threshold 0prevents scene-change detection from shortening the GOP in this example.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes AAC audio at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz.-f flvselects the output container commonly used for RTMP-family ingest. Confirm that the event’s endpoint accepts the chosen RTMPS/FLV combination.
FFmpeg documents -re as useful for reading a file at native rate to simulate a live input, and cautions against low read rates when the input is already live. This workflow is for a file, not a camera or another real-time source.

Test the event and monitor the stream
- Start with a test event or test run. YouTube recommends testing before the broadcast with audio and motion comparable to the intended stream.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that picture and audio are present and that the stream health messages do not show a problem.
- Check the public watch page, including on a mobile device, to make sure viewers can see and hear the feed as expected.
- During operation, monitor stream health and messages. For a long-running setup, arrange a person or alerting to notice failures and a tested way to restart the local process.
FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer documentation includes an example that attempts recovery from temporary network failures while continuing at real-time speed. That is a recovery mechanism to test, not proof of continuous playback or a guarantee that YouTube will preserve the same event after every interruption. Test the actual FFmpeg build, file, network, event, and restart behavior you plan to use. Do not assume HTTP-input reconnection options apply generically to an RTMP output.
Understand the limits of a 24/7 broadcast
-stream_loop -1 makes the input repeat, but a process that runs indefinitely is not the same as a guaranteed uninterrupted YouTube event. The computer running FFmpeg, encoder process, network connection, and YouTube ingest all have to continue working; plan for supervision and recovery.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise automatic archiving for a single stream longer than 12 hours. If an archive matters, plan shorter events and preserve a separate local recording where practical; verify current behavior in Live Control Room before relying on an archive.
