You can use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer to play compatible Indian music-video files in sequence and repeat the playlist to YouTube Live. The key limits: concat does not make incompatible files seamless, and you need rights to livestream each recording and its underlying music. YouTube may interrupt a stream that matches unlicensed third-party content.
Before you start: check rights and file compatibility
Make sure you can livestream the videos
Having a video file—or permission to upload a video—does not necessarily give you permission to broadcast it as a live stream. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say streamers must have the necessary rights to exploit live content, including music rights involving artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The rights you need depend on the tracks, video, license, territories and applicable law; no particular track’s permission is established here.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says Creator Music licenses do not cover live content.

Check whether concat demuxing fits your files
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer joins files in sequence without first combining them into a new file. It expects compatible inputs: FFmpeg specifies that files must have the same streams, including the same codecs and time base. Differences in stream layout, codec parameters, timestamps or duration metadata can cause errors, gaps or artifacts at transitions. Check the files and test the playlist before scheduling a long broadcast.

Create the concat playlist
- Put the media files and playlist in a stable directory. Use filenames that are easy to identify and do not move or rename them while the stream is running.
- Create a text file named
playlist.ffconcat. Put the exact headerffconcat version 1.0on the first line, with no blank line before it, then add onefiledirective per video:ffconcat version 1.0 file 'video-01.mp4' file 'video-02.mp4' file 'video-03.mp4' - Quote or escape paths carefully. The example uses simple filenames. For spaces or special characters, use valid quoting or escaping for the concat file format. The header enables automatic format recognition; spelling and placement matter.
- Review ordering and transitions. The demuxer advances timestamps using each input’s duration. Check that duration metadata reflects the files’ actual lengths, then play the sequence through its joins and watch for gaps, repeated frames, audio breaks or drift.
For format and path details, see the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.
Send the repeating playlist to YouTube Live with FFmpeg
Set up a YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the ingestion URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the values for that actual stream; do not publish the key in a script repository, screenshot, shared log or other public place.
- In the Live Control Room, confirm the stream’s settings and check its incoming preview as directed by the interface. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains how to connect an encoder. YouTube’s API documentation lists RTMP/RTMPS, HLS and DASH ingestion options; the example below is an RTMP-style pattern, not a universal destination format.
Run an illustrative loop command

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -f flv
'rtmp://YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY'
Replace the destination with the exact ingestion address and stream-name/key form YouTube supplies for your stream. Check the installed FFmpeg version and its loop-option behavior. Run a short test first, preferably with the stream’s visibility set to private or unlisted, and confirm that the preview and playback behave as expected before relying on it.
-re reads input at its native rate rather than as fast as possible; -stream_loop -1 requests indefinite input looping; -f concat selects the concat demuxer; and -safe 0 permits paths outside the demuxer’s restricted safe-path form. Use that option only with a playlist you control. The output options encode video as H.264 and audio as AAC in an FLV container. They do not remove concat’s input-compatibility or timestamp requirements.

Choose the right FFmpeg approach for mismatched files
| Approach | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Concat demuxer with stream copy | Inputs have compatible streams and you want to avoid re-encoding. | Compatibility and timestamp differences can break joins; stream copy also depends on the output container supporting the copied streams. |
| Concat demuxer with transcoding | Inputs are compatible enough for the demuxer, but you need a consistent encoded output such as H.264 video and AAC audio. | Transcoding standardizes the output but uses computational resources. It does not make incompatible input stream layouts safe for the demuxer. |
| Concat filter with re-encoding | Inputs need to be normalized as part of joining them, such as when their properties differ materially. | It requires a filter workflow and re-encoding. See FFmpeg’s concat FAQ for the distinction from the demuxer. |
There is no single set of live bitrate, keyframe interval or network-rate values established here for every stream. YouTube’s encoding guidance describes upload encoding, not live encoder settings. Its upload recommendations include MP4, H.264 video, AAC-LC/Opus/Eclipsa audio and 48 kHz audio; for SDR uploads, it lists 8 Mbps for 1080p at standard frame rates and 5 Mbps for 720p. Do not treat those upload figures as live-stream bitrate recommendations. Use the current live-specific guidance in the Live Control Room for your stream.

A broadcast that runs continuously is not the same thing as a single, guaranteed 24-hour archived video. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For longer broadcasts, check the current live-stream archive guidance; do not assume one uninterrupted 24-hour VOD will be retained.

Troubleshoot common problems
- FFmpeg rejects a file or the join fails: inspect the streams and compare codecs, time bases and stream layouts. The concat demuxer requires compatible inputs. Normalize the files consistently or use a concat-filter workflow with re-encoding when needed.
- There is a gap, freeze or audio break at a transition: check duration metadata against actual playback, then inspect timestamps and stream parameters around the join. Test each transition; transcoding the output alone does not fix every demuxer input mismatch.
- FFmpeg cannot find a playlist entry: check the working directory and each path in the list. Quote or escape spaces and special characters. If relying on automatic format recognition, ensure the exact header is the first line.
- The playlist will not accept a path:
-safe 0relaxes the concat demuxer’s path restrictions. Use it only for a playlist you control, and confirm the paths are correct. - YouTube shows no incoming video: verify the ingestion URL and stream key against the selected stream, keep the encoder running and check the Live Control Room preview. Treat the stream key as a secret; regenerate it if it has been exposed.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced: check YouTube’s notice and resolve any Content ID match. Confirm that your permission covers livestream use and ask the rights owner about channel allowlisting if applicable. A video-upload license or Creator Music license should not be assumed to authorize a live broadcast.
- The broadcast runs longer than expected but no complete archive appears: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. Review current archive guidance rather than assuming a longer broadcast will become one uninterrupted recording.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos without leaving your own computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not live camera feeds. See StreamNeo for details. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
