You can’t add a YouTube end screen as an overlay to an active 24/7 broadcast. YouTube’s documented workflow adds end screens to eligible videos in YouTube Studio, so first check whether your completed stream archive has an End screen control in its Editor. Availability for every continuous-stream archive is not confirmed. If the control is available, add a Subscribe element and a relevant video or playlist; if it is not, there is no documented universal workaround for that archive.
Can you add an end screen to an active 24/7 stream?
No—not through YouTube’s documented end-screen workflow. An end screen appears in the final portion of a video; YouTube’s instructions describe editing a video in Studio, not configuring an overlay for a broadcast that is currently live. A completed livestream archive may be editable, but YouTube’s official guidance does not guarantee that every 24/7 archive exposes the End screen control or explain how continuous streams are divided into archives. Check the specific archive before planning around an end screen.
How to check and add an end screen to a stream archive
- In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the completed livestream archive.
- Open Editor and look for End screen. If it is available, choose it to add elements. If it is absent, the reviewed YouTube instructions do not document a hidden setting or universal workaround for a continuous-stream archive.
- Add a Subscribe element. If you have room, pair it with a relevant video, a video selected by YouTube, your latest upload, or a public playlist. Choose something that naturally continues the stream’s subject.
- Place and time the elements in the video’s final portion. Preview the ending, save your changes, and check the archive’s playback to confirm how the end screen appears.
End-screen limits and who can see them
- The video must be at least 25 seconds long. End-screen elements appear during the final 5–20 seconds.
- A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements. Other aspect ratios may allow fewer.
- End screens are unavailable on videos designated Made for Kids. Viewers also may not see them in some contexts, including mobile web other than iPad mobile web, YouTube Music or YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, and 360 videos.
- Viewers can hide end screens. YouTube may also change whether or how elements appear based on performance, viewer behavior, device, and context.
- Available elements include a video, playlist, Subscribe, and Channel. An external website element is available to creators in the YouTube Partner Program and must comply with YouTube policies.
YouTube recommends featuring elements relevant to the video, using calls to action, and leaving enough space and time at the end. For subscriber growth, make Subscribe the clear action and use any adjacent destination as a relevant next step—not an unrelated promotion. These are design recommendations, not a guarantee of more subscribers.
Measure end-screen clicks without confusing them with subscriptions
In YouTube Studio Analytics, the Engagement report includes End screen element click rate. Google defines it as clicks on end-screen elements divided by their impressions. It measures interaction with the end screen, not subscriber conversion. Use it to compare which elements or destinations viewers click, then separately monitor whether channel subscriptions change. The reviewed official sources do not establish a particular subscriber increase from end screens on 24/7 stream archives or a universally best-performing combination.

When a live handoff is the goal
If you want to send viewers from a broadcast that is ending to a Premiere or another live stream, look at YouTube’s separate Live Redirect feature, rather than treating it as an end screen. The sending creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes to be eligible. Live Redirect is a live-to-live or live-to-Premiere handoff; an end screen belongs to the end of a video.
