To use it, record a Cypress v13-or-later run to Cypress Cloud with Test Replay enabled, then open that run and select UI Coverage. The report is generated for qualifying runs; Cypress says no plugin, test changes, or code instrumentation are required.
What you need before you start
- A project with at least one run recorded to Cypress Cloud.
- Cypress v13 or later.
- Test Replay enabled for the run. Runs recorded while Test Replay is off do not produce a UI Coverage report.
- UI Coverage enabled for your organization. The setup guide describes enabling it through a free trial; it is not included in standard Cypress Cloud plans according to Cypress’s setup page and FAQ. Check Cypress Cloud for current plan and trial terms.
Cypress’s setup page was last updated July 28, 2026, and its introduction page August 12, 2026. Product requirements and commercial terms can change.
Record a run and open its report
- In Cypress Cloud, confirm UI Coverage is enabled for your organization and Test Replay is enabled for the project or run.
- Record an end-to-end or component test run. The documented command pattern is
npx cypress run --record --key <your-record-key>. Use the equivalent Cypress command for Yarn, pnpm, or Bun if that is how your project runs Cypress. - When the run finishes, open it in Cypress Cloud and select UI Coverage. Cypress generates a report automatically for each qualifying recorded run, covering the unique states reached during end-to-end and component testing.
Keep the record key private. If no report appears, first verify that the run was recorded to the intended project and that Test Replay was on for that run.
Understand what the report measures
The report includes an overall score, scores for individual views (pages or application states), tested and untested elements, DOM snapshots showing where untested elements appear, and untested links that indicate destinations the test suite has not visited. The overall score represents the share of interactive elements exercised by tests.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Only visible elements count toward the total.
- Grouped elements count as one unit.
- A distinct link destination counts once. Cypress considers a link tested if a test interacts with it or visits its destination.
Use the score as a diagnostic for the UI surface captured in that run, not as a complete measure of software quality. It does not tell you whether the underlying code is correct, whether every important business outcome works, or whether unvisited states are defective.
Turn coverage gaps into useful tests
- Prioritize views by importance. Start with low-scoring pages or states that matter to key user journeys, rather than trying to maximize every view equally.
- Inspect the reported elements. Open a view’s DOM snapshot and review untested buttons, inputs, links, and controls. Decide whether each belongs to your application and merits a test.
- Separate genuine gaps from noise. Cypress identifies third-party widgets such as chat launchers and cookie banners, as well as external or out-of-scope links, as common reasons for low or misleading scores.
- Add focused tests for owned functionality. Write a hand-authored test for meaningful missed interactions, or use Cypress Test Generation where available.
- Verify the change in a later recorded run. Revisit the report to confirm the gap closed and remains covered as the application changes.
Configure what UI Coverage counts
Configuration is JSON edited in Cypress Cloud at Project Settings → App Quality, not in the repository. It is opt-in and can be introduced incrementally. Cypress says configuration changes can be applied to historical runs by reprocessing them, so a test rerun is not always necessary. By default, only Admin users can edit configuration; a Cypress point-of-contact can enable editing for others.

Some settings are shared with Cypress Accessibility when defined at the root of the configuration; UI Coverage-only options belong under uiCoverage. For the relevant shared options, nested values replace rather than merge with root values. Repeat shared rules inside the nested list if they should apply there too. Consult Cypress’s UI Coverage configuration documentation for the current JSON structure and option details.
Use coverage in CI only after the report is trustworthy
You can use Cypress’s Results API to compare runs or enforce a threshold, but threshold enforcement is optional. First make sure filters and grouping reflect the application’s intended scope; otherwise, an automated threshold can turn reporting noise into a failing gate. Cypress’s pull-request policy guide says its referenced helper requires Test Replay and a run recorded within the previous seven days. Review the pull-request policy documentation before adopting that helper.

UI Coverage is not source-code coverage
UI Coverage measures whether tests interact with visible UI elements. Code coverage measures execution of source-code lines, branches, and functions; Cypress’s code coverage guide describes instrumentation and the @cypress/code-coverage plugin for that workflow. The measures answer different questions and can complement one another. UI Coverage does not replace instrumented code coverage.
