To screenshot a webpage with Claude on Windows, connect Claude Desktop to Microsoft’s Playwright MCP server, ask Claude to open the page, then use the server’s screenshot tool. Set fullPage to true for the whole scrollable page; omit it to capture only the browser’s current view. The steps below use a local MCP server so the browser runs on your Windows computer.
What you need
- Claude Desktop for Windows, installed from Anthropic’s downloads page.
- Node.js and npm so you can run the Playwright MCP package with
npx. - A supported browser: Playwright MCP documents Chromium-based Chrome and Edge, Firefox, and WebKit. The setup below selects Edge.
- A webpage URL that your computer can access.
Claude Desktop is documented for Windows, and Microsoft documents Playwright MCP setup for Claude Desktop and Claude Code. The official pages reviewed do not establish whether account, plan, or network restrictions specific to India apply. If setup or access fails, check the current availability and network conditions for your account rather than assuming the workflow is blocked or supported in India.

Install Claude Desktop
Download Claude Desktop for Windows from Anthropic’s official downloads page, install it, and sign in.

Configure the local server
Follow Microsoft’s Playwright MCP setup instructions for Claude Desktop and add its standard server configuration. The server command is
npx @playwright/mcp@latest. If you want Edge, include the--browser msedgeoption in the server arguments; the documented browser choices also include Chrome, Firefox, and WebKit. Use the exact configuration format shown in the current README rather than guessing where Claude stores configuration.#1 Best Overall

Restart Claude and verify the connection
Open Claude Desktop’s plus-menu Connectors view to inspect connected MCP servers and their available tools. You can also check connection status and logs in Developer settings, as described in Anthropic’s local MCP guide.

Ask Claude to navigate and capture
In a Claude chat, ask it to open the URL in the controlled browser and take a screenshot using Playwright MCP. Specify whether you need the current viewport or the entire page, and give a filename if you want a particular name. For a full-page image, the screenshot tool accepts
fullPage: true; without that option, it captures the current page view.Rank #2

For example: “Open https://example.com in the browser and save a full-page screenshot as example.png using the screenshot tool.” Replace the URL with the page you need. Claude should invoke the relevant browser and screenshot tools; review the requested tool actions before approving them.

Find the saved image
Playwright MCP supports an output directory for automatically named screenshots and explicit filenames. Check the server’s configured output location and confirm the file was saved there; do not assume it will appear in Claude’s chat downloads folder.

Viewport or full-page capture?

Full-page capture can produce a much taller image than a viewport screenshot. If you need a specific section rather than the whole page, ask for a targeted capture and check the available screenshot-tool options in the current Playwright MCP documentation.
Local MCP versus a remote connector
For a browser running on your Windows PC, use the local-server route described above. Anthropic distinguishes local MCP servers configured in Claude Desktop from remote connectors, which connect from Anthropic’s cloud infrastructure. A remote connector does not automatically control a browser installed on your own computer. See Anthropic’s remote MCP connector guide for that separate connection model.

Other browser route: Edge DevTools MCP
Microsoft also documents Edge DevTools MCP as a separate option for agents to inspect websites and WebView2 apps. Its published prerequisites include Node.js, npm, Microsoft Edge, and an MCP-capable agent such as Claude Code. Unlike Playwright MCP, this is an Edge-specific DevTools route; see Microsoft’s Edge DevTools MCP documentation for its setup and available tools. For a general browser screenshot workflow with documented browser choices, Playwright MCP is the more direct fit.

- Only connect MCP servers you trust. Anthropic notes that custom connectors may not be verified; review tool requests and enable only the tools you need.
- Use the local-server setup when the target is your local browser. Do not treat a remote connector as equivalent.
- Check that the requested page opened successfully before relying on the screenshot; a blocked or incomplete page can yield an image that is technically saved but not useful.
- Follow site access rules and avoid capturing pages or information you are not authorized to access.
Troubleshooting
