To help Alfred attack Maria, place his carrier beside the red crack in the wall, then use Call Cat to send him toward the next window ahead of the moving red glow. Repeat until Alfred lands three hits; Maria then returns to the open fight.
Set up Alfred at the wall
- Pick up Alfred’s carrier and place it beside the red crack in the wall. The walkthrough that describes this sequence says the position lets Alfred enter the wall space. (Resonant Codex walkthrough)
- Watch the red glow as it moves between the windows. Identify the next window in its path rather than the one where the glow is currently visible.
Use Call Cat to target Maria
- When the glow is moving toward the next window, use Call Cat and direct Alfred there.
- Repeat the timing and targeting until Alfred hits Maria three times. She then returns to the open area, where you can finish the fight.
These steps come from an unofficial walkthrough, not official quest instructions from Remedy. The reported sequence calls for three successful hits; it does not establish a universal control-button mapping.
If your encounter cues do not match
Walkthroughs describe the targeting phase differently. One account uses illuminated grates to show where Maria is hiding and tells Alfred to move through the walls toward her; another mentions both grates and a shifting glow. If your objective or prompts differ from the red-window sequence, follow the active in-game prompt and the cues shown in your encounter. “Into the Valley of Death” is the quest involving Langston’s cat Alfred and the fight with Maria.
