Browshot can capture repeatable screenshots, but the documented workflow does not provide a verified, turnkey visual-diff and alerting system. To monitor a page, capture it on a schedule, save each image with its capture settings, and compare new images with a baseline using a separate comparison step. Browshot supplies the screenshots; scheduling, change detection, and alerts must be handled separately unless its current documentation confirms otherwise.
What Browshot does—and what a monitoring workflow must add
Browshot offers a dashboard and an authenticated REST API for capturing webpages. Its API supports browser-instance selection and screen or full-page screenshots. It also documents browser automation, batching, completion hooks, and optional hosting. These features can supply images to a monitoring workflow, but a screenshot by itself does not detect a change or notify anyone. Browshot API documentation
A useful monitoring pipeline has four separate jobs: capture the same page consistently, save each result with its settings and time, compare it with a baseline, and route meaningful differences to a person or system. Treat the last two jobs as your own integration or use a separate diff and alerting service.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Dashboard for occasional checks
Use Browshot’s dashboard when you want to inspect a page manually or capture it occasionally. The available browser instances include free, premium, and private options, with differences in browser and device choices. Consult Browshot’s current features and pricing information before choosing an instance; offerings and limits can change.

API for repeatable capture
Use the API when captures need to run repeatedly or feed another system. Browshot documents both a Simple API and a complete API. Its documentation describes the Simple API as easier to use but slower; the complete API offers more control, batching, and completion notifications. Check the current API reference for the active endpoints, required authentication, parameters, and response behavior before wiring up a production monitor. Browshot API documentation
Build a repeatable monitoring workflow
- Create an account and API key. Browshot’s API requires authentication. Keep the key in a secret store or environment variable rather than committing it to source control. API authentication documentation
- Select the browser instance. Choose an instance that matches the browser or device experience you need to monitor. Use the same instance on every run; changing browsers can change layout and rendering independently of the site update. Confirm current instance availability and any usage conditions in Browshot’s feature information.
- Define the capture consistently. Fix the target URL, viewport dimensions, screen or full-page capture mode, and post-load delay. Browshot’s API documentation lists a five-second default post-load delay and a default cache window of 24 hours. These are documented defaults, not guarantees that suit every page; verify current values in the active API reference. For a monitor that must request a fresh capture, configure caching accordingly rather than accidentally comparing a cached image.
- Handle interactive pages before capture. If the page requires navigation, a click, typing, or a wait, use Browshot’s documented automation steps. Its login automation documentation covers actions such as clicking, typing, navigating, waiting, executing JavaScript, and then capturing. Treat any login credentials or session data as secrets. Browshot login automation documentation
- Save a useful record with each screenshot. Store the image and a record containing at least the URL, timestamp, browser instance, viewport, capture size, delay, and automation parameters. Browshot documents optional hosting and completion hooks; external storage is also an option. The metadata makes later differences easier to diagnose.
- Run captures on your own schedule. Use a scheduler or job system to trigger captures at the cadence your monitoring needs. Do not assume that Browshot provides recurring scheduling unless its current documentation explicitly confirms that capability.
- Compare and route changes separately. Compare each new screenshot with the chosen baseline using a separate image-diff tool or a human review step. Establish a threshold or review policy appropriate to the page, then route differences for investigation through your own alerting workflow. A raw pixel difference can flag dynamic content, rotating banners, or timestamps as well as real design changes, so interpret results in context.
Keep screenshots comparable
A visual comparison is meaningful only if the capture conditions stay stable. Keep these values fixed between runs:

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
- Browser instance and device profile.
- Viewport width and height, and screen versus full-page capture.
- Post-load delay and any automation sequence.
- Cookies, request settings, and page state where applicable.
- Cache behavior, so a new run is not mistaken for a fresh rendering when it reused a cached image.
For full-page monitoring, use the full-page mode when changes below the initial viewport matter. For a focused check, a screen capture can reduce irrelevant page content. Choose the capture extent that corresponds to the region you actually want to track.

Interactive pages, cookies, and custom requests
Browshot documents automation for interacting with a page before capture. Custom request options such as cookies and POST data have paid-use conditions in the official documentation, so verify the current plan requirements before depending on them. For authenticated pages, avoid putting credentials in logs, screenshot filenames, or publicly accessible storage. Prefer the least-privileged account and access method that can render the target page, and review Browshot’s current handling and access controls before sending sensitive session data.
Allowance, caching, and reliability considerations
Browshot’s API documentation states a free-instance allowance of 100 screenshots per month and a 24-hour default cache window; these are Browshot-published product terms, not independent measurements, and may change. Confirm both against the live documentation before planning a recurring monitor. The same documentation describes a five-second default delay. The maximum-delay information is inconsistent across Browshot documentation pages, so consult the active API specification rather than relying on an assumed maximum. Browshot API documentation

Estimate usage from the number of monitored URLs, capture frequency, and any additional captures needed for retries or alternate states. Use Browshot’s documented batching or completion hooks where they fit the chosen API flow, and design your scheduler to record failed or incomplete runs instead of treating them as visual changes. Browser and network variability can affect rendering, so keep settings stable and retain enough run metadata to separate capture failures from actual page changes.
Troubleshooting
- The screenshot appears unchanged after the site changed: Check whether the API returned a cached capture; review cache settings and capture again with caching configured for a fresh result.
- The screenshot captures the wrong page state: Increase or adjust the documented post-load delay, or add an explicit automation wait for the relevant page state. Confirm that navigation and interaction steps completed before capture.
- Images differ on every run without a deliberate design update: Check that the browser instance, viewport, capture extent, cookies, and automation are identical. Look for changing page content such as rotating promotions or live data before treating a diff as a site change.
- A login-dependent page is blank or shows a sign-in screen: Review the automation sequence and session or cookie handling. Check whether the request features you need, including cookies or POST data, are available under your current Browshot use conditions.
- API calls fail or cannot authenticate: Confirm the request uses a valid API key and current endpoint and parameter names from Browshot’s API documentation. Keep the key out of client-side code and logs.
- Captures exceed the expected monthly usage or cost: Recalculate URL count and run frequency, including retries and multi-state captures, then compare that estimate with Browshot’s current allowance and instance terms.
