ApiFlash’s documented URL-to-image endpoint does not generate PDF files. It captures a webpage as JPEG, PNG, or WebP. You can use it to create an image, then convert that image separately, but that is not the same as producing a paginated webpage PDF. If you need an actual PDF, use a separate webpage-to-PDF service or verify that a provider offers the PDF output and page controls you need.
What ApiFlash can do for this workflow
ApiFlash documents the https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage endpoint for capturing a webpage as an image. Its documented formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP; image bytes are returned by default. With response_type=json, the response contains links to generated files and, when enabled, extracted HTML or text. A screenshot image can be placed inside a PDF container, but that generally gives you an image on a page—not a text-searchable, naturally paginated rendering of the webpage. If you require a true webpage PDF, use a distinct conversion stage and check that it handles page size, page breaks, dynamic content, and any authentication the site requires.
Capture a webpage with ApiFlash
The documented request uses GET or POST. This GET example asks for a full-page PNG screenshot. Replace the placeholder with an ApiFlash access key and the target URL with the page you want to capture.

- Provide a complete URL. Include
https://orhttp://. URL-encode the target when building the request manually; in the example,https%3A%2F%2Fexample.comis the encoded form ofhttps://example.com. - Choose capture options. Set
formattojpeg,png, orwebp. Usefull_page=trueto capture the full page height; ApiFlash says theheightsetting is ignored in this mode. - Save the image response. By default the endpoint returns image data. Handle the response as binary image content, not as PDF data.
ApiFlash’s documentation says its unique HTTPS endpoint accepts both GET and POST. Its guides also describe proxying requests through Nginx or Cloudflare Workers to keep the access key out of client-side code. ApiFlash guides
Choose a separate route when the deliverable must be a PDF
After capturing an image, you can convert that image to a PDF, but the result preserves the screenshot as an image and may not suit a document that must flow across pages or remain searchable. For a webpage rendered into a PDF, use a separate URL-to-PDF or HTML-to-PDF service. The ApiLayer Marketplace documents a separate Web page to PDF API, and Adobe documents HTML-to-PDF through PDF Services; neither is an ApiFlash feature. - Does it accept a webpage URL directly, or must you submit HTML?
- Does it produce a multipage document, and can you control paper size, margins, orientation, and page ranges?
- Can it render the page after scripts run, wait for dynamic content, and handle authentication?
- How is the output delivered, and what are the current quotas, prices, and data-handling terms?
Adjust ApiFlash captures for page content and timing
Viewport and full-page height
ApiFlash documents default viewport dimensions of 1920 by 1080 pixels, along with pixel limits and a maximum pixel area. The endpoint’s reference should be checked for the applicable limits before requesting very large captures. Set width and height when you need a specific viewport; when full_page=true, the height setting is ignored.

Wait for the page to render
The documented default for wait_until is network_idle; supported criteria include dom_loaded and page_loaded. ApiFlash documents a maximum wait_until_timeout of 30 seconds. For a known element that appears after scripts run, wait_for can target a CSS selector; the documented failure timeout is 15 seconds if that element never appears. Prefer these conditions to an arbitrary delay when you can identify the page state you need.
For lazy-loaded content or animations, ApiFlash documents scroll_page=true as a way to trigger scrolling behavior. This can help reveal content that loads on scroll, but it cannot guarantee that every site’s dynamic content will load correctly. ApiFlash FAQ

Headers and cookies
The API supports custom headers and cookies, including use cases involving authenticated pages. Custom headers can affect requests beyond the target page and may interfere with external fonts. ApiFlash’s FAQ points to self-hosted fonts or cookies for authentication as possible approaches in that situation. Test the resulting capture when a page depends on third-party assets.
Cache behavior
Identical parameter calls may return a cached screenshot. Use ttl to set cache duration or fresh=true to request a new capture when you need current page content.

Common API response errors
- 400: The parameters are invalid or the URL cannot be captured. Check the URL scheme, encoding, option names, and whether the target is reachable.
- 401: The access key is invalid or revoked. Confirm the key and replace it if necessary.
- 402: The monthly quota is exhausted. Check your account’s current allowance or plan.
- 403: The requested feature is unsupported on the plan. Verify the plan’s current feature limits.
- 429: Too many requests. Reduce request frequency and retry with suitable backoff.
ApiFlash’s reviewed reference states a limit of 20 requests per second with a burst of 400; this is vendor-documented and should be rechecked against the current reference before relying on it for production throughput. ApiFlash API reference

Bot checks and failed captures
ApiFlash’s FAQ warns that strict bot protection can still block captures; it does not promise to bypass bot controls. A proxy may help depending on the site’s protection, but it is not a universal fix. If a capture fails, inspect the target’s access requirements and use an authorized method rather than assuming a screenshot service can access every page.
