What’s actually slowing this PC down?

With Playwright MCP, navigate to the page, inspect its accessibility snapshot, click the cookie-banner option that matches your intent, take a fresh snapshot, then call browser_take_screenshot. The screenshot tool can capture the viewport, a page element, or the full page. This guide uses Playwright MCP; other MCP browser servers may provide different tools and configuration.
What you need
Use a compatible MCP client and Node.js 20 or newer. Follow the Playwright MCP getting-started guide to configure @playwright/mcp@latest for your client. That guide documents browser choices including Chrome, Firefox, WebKit, and Microsoft Edge, as well as persistent, isolated, and browser-extension profile modes.
Persistent mode is the default and preserves login state and cookies. Isolated mode starts fresh and can load storage state. Those settings can affect whether a site shows a banner, but do not guarantee identical consent behavior across sites.
Dismiss the banner, then capture the page
- Navigate. In your MCP client, ask Playwright to open the target URL with its browser navigation tool.
- Inspect the accessibility snapshot. Ask for a snapshot and locate the cookie banner’s controls. Playwright MCP exposes accessible elements with roles, text, and refs. Button labels vary by site, so use the controls actually shown rather than assuming a universal name.
- Choose the intended consent option. Click the visible control that matches the user’s instruction—for example, reject, necessary-only, or accept, if that option is offered. The tool supports clicking a snapshot ref; Playwright’s documentation does not prescribe a universal cookie choice.
- Take a fresh snapshot. Page changes can invalidate refs. After the click, inspect a new snapshot before relying on refs again. If a ref is stale, take another snapshot and use the current ref. On a large snapshot,
browser_findcan search matching text and return its surrounding subtree. - Capture the requested view. Call
browser_take_screenshot. With no special target, it captures the viewport. SetfullPage: truefor the full scrollable page, or target a ref or selector to capture one element. Full-page capture and an element target cannot be combined.
Choose the right screenshot type
| Goal | Capture choice | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Check the visible state after consent | Default viewport screenshot | The current viewport, useful for a quick visual check. |
| Document one component | Target an element by ref or selector | A screenshot of the specified page element. |
| Include below-the-fold content | fullPage: true |
The full scrollable page; do not combine it with an element target. |
Playwright MCP supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP. If you do not specify a filename, the image is returned inline and saved under a generated name. See the Playwright screenshot tool documentation.

An accessibility snapshot is for finding and interacting with controls such as the consent buttons. A screenshot is for visual verification, bug documentation, and visual content such as charts or canvas elements. If the banner is absent from the snapshot, the reviewed documentation does not establish a universal fallback selector or interaction method; inspect what the page exposes rather than guessing. See Playwright snapshots and its screenshot documentation.
A browser dialog is different from an in-page cookie banner. If Playwright reports an actual browser dialog, handle that modal before continuing; dialog handling is among the interactions described in the getting-started guide.
Cookie storage is not the consent interface
Playwright MCP’s storage capability includes tools for managing cookies and local or session storage. Deleting or editing stored cookies is not the same as responding to a website’s in-page consent interface. If your task is to make a consent choice, use the visible banner control that matches that instruction. See Playwright MCP capabilities.
Troubleshooting
- The consent-button ref no longer works: Navigation and other page changes can invalidate refs. Request a fresh snapshot and click the current ref.
- You cannot find the button in a large snapshot: Use
browser_findto search for visible button text and inspect the returned surrounding subtree. - The banner does not appear: Profile mode and existing cookies or storage can affect page state. Persistent mode preserves login state and cookies; isolated mode starts fresh and can load storage state. A particular profile choice does not guarantee how a site will display consent.
- The capture misses content below the fold: Use
fullPage: true. If you are targeting a single element, remove the full-page option because the two capture modes are mutually exclusive. - You expected a screenshot file but got an inline result: Specify a filename if you need a named output; without one, the result is returned inline and saved under a generated name.
- The banner controls are not accessible in the snapshot: The reviewed Playwright documentation does not specify a universal fallback. Do not assume a selector or consent choice; use only a method supported by the page and your client configuration.
Or skip the browser setup
