Chromebooks already let you choose a Google Photos album as wallpaper. To set one, right-click the desktop, select Set wallpaper & style, open Wallpaper, and choose Google Photos. Google announced album-based wallpaper with automatic daily changes in 2022; that documented feature does not confirm a newly launched 2026 album-view panel.
Set a Google Photos album as your Chromebook wallpaper
- Right-click an empty area of the Chromebook desktop.
- Select Set wallpaper & style.
- Choose Wallpaper.
- Select Google Photos, then choose an album or photo available in your account.
Google’s current Chromebook Help instructions document Google Photos as a wallpaper source. The same settings offer other sources, including saved images under My images and curated wallpaper collections.
Can an album change the wallpaper every day?
Yes. Google’s 2022 announcement said Chromebook users could choose a Google Photos album and have its wallpaper change daily. The current help page documents Google Photos wallpaper selection but does not specify a refresh schedule, so the daily-change detail is based on Google’s 2022 description, not a newly documented 2026 rollout. See Google’s 2022 Chromebook feature announcement.
What happens when you use a shared album?
Other members of a shared album may continue adding or editing images while you use that album as wallpaper, according to Google’s Chromebook Help page. The album can therefore keep changing as its members update it.

Why might Google Photos be unavailable?
Your Chromebook is managed by work or school
An administrator can restrict wallpaper changes on a work or school Chromebook. Chrome Enterprise documents the WallpaperGooglePhotosIntegrationEnabled policy: when disabled, users cannot select a Google Photos album as wallpaper; when enabled or unset, they can. The policy applies at the Chrome profile level and is supported on ChromeOS since version 113. See Chrome Enterprise policy documentation.
Sync behavior differs between your Chromebooks
Google says wallpaper settings can sync across Chromebooks when Sync everything is enabled. Check your sync setting if the wallpaper choice does not match across devices; an administrator may also control available settings.

Does this mean a new album-view panel is rolling out?
Not on the available official evidence. Google’s help documents selecting Google Photos in Wallpaper settings, and Chromium interface strings include Google Photos album labels in the Personalization app. Those facts support the existence of album-oriented wallpaper selection, but they do not establish a newly launched panel, its rollout schedule, regional availability, or a complete device list. Treat the album wallpaper feature as existing functionality rather than a confirmed 2026 interface launch.
